Song Ji-hyo's Transformation: From Glamour to Grounded in 'The Savior'

Song Ji-hyo takes on the role of Sun-hee in her new movie, 'The Savior,' embracing a natural and unadorned appearance.
The film is a mystery occult thriller set in the blessed land of 'Obok Village,' where miraculous events unfold, only to reveal that these phenomena come at the cost of someone's misfortune.
Regarding her approach to the character, Song Ji-hyo stated, "I'm the type to stay true to the character in any film. If not looking pretty suits the role, I don't dress up. If dressing up helps, then I do."
This reflects her commitment to embodying the character rather than focusing on her own image. She added, "When it comes to visuals, it's important to blend into the work," explaining that she didn't put much thought into Sun-hee's appearance.
Song Ji-hyo often opts for 'no makeup' and a lifestyle-oriented style in her personal life.
In her recent film, 'Meeting House,' she also shed her glamorous image. She wanted to portray a character worn down by life, choosing to act without makeup for a more realistic portrayal.
Her unadorned appearance extends to the variety show 'Running Man,' a choice she explains by saying, "I've always pursued comfort since I was young."
She says that sunscreen, a cotton t-shirt, and a backpack are enough for her daily life, admitting that even spending an hour getting dolled up is too much of a struggle. She values inner peace over outward appearance.
Song Ji-hyo prioritizes inner comfort above all else. She stated, "I prefer being comfortable over looking pretty. I'd rather have good inner peace than look good outwardly," choosing intrinsic satisfaction.
This attitude has gradually developed since her younger years, and viewers find her natural appearance more genuine.
When asked about her prime, many consider her debut in 'Princess Hours' as her peak, but she disagrees. "Actually, that wasn't my prime. Youth was my weapon. My 'prime' was in the early days of 'Running Man,'" she recalls, as it was a time when she awakened to external expressions through social experience.
However, she eventually gave up the routine of visiting salons due to the physical strain of the frequent water games.
In the past, she faced controversy over her styling choices. She confessed, "I was heavily criticized back then, so I'm trying to go back to the initial routine... I even released a statement at the time."
Reflecting on her past, she admitted that she didn't fully understand the fans' concerns, saying, "I overlooked their feelings. I think I thought it was a show just for me."
Currently, she actively listens to fans' opinions and has reconsidered her responsibility as a public figure.
The movie 'The Savior' is set to premiere on November 5th, and Song Ji-hyo's realistic portrayal in this film is highly anticipated.
