Singer Soyou Alleges Racial Discrimination on Delta Air Lines, Sparking Debate

Korean singer Soyou has taken to social media to claim she experienced racial discrimination on a Delta Air Lines flight. This incident has brought renewed attention to past allegations of discrimination against the airline.
On October 19, Soyou stated on her social media, "After finishing my New York schedule, I transferred to a Korean-bound flight in Atlanta. I called a Korean flight attendant to confirm meal times because I was tired, but their attitude became problematic, and they called security."
She expressed feeling subjected to cold stares and attitudes throughout the flight, stating, "I felt like this was racial discrimination." She ultimately revealed that she couldn't eat anything during the 15-hour flight.
The post quickly went viral, drawing criticism towards Delta Air Lines online. However, the following day, an eyewitness account challenging her claims surfaced. The anonymous poster claimed, "Soyou was inebriated and said she wasn't eating because she was tired. The staff cautioned her that she was not fit to fly in her intoxicated state. It is wrong to claim this is racial discrimination. As a Korean and a fan, I was ashamed."
The account further stated, "I didn't realize it at first on the night flight, but it suddenly became noisy as I sat down, and it was Soyou. She asked for a Korean staff member because she said she was 'too drunk to read the menu.' There was no security guard present." However, the authenticity of this post is unconfirmed, and it has since been deleted. Netizens are debating whether it was deleted because it was a lie or because it drew too much attention. Some are questioning the authenticity of Soyou's initial post, while others argue that if Soyou were intoxicated, she wouldn't have posted her boarding pass as evidence on Instagram to protest.
Delta Air Lines ranked third in the U.S. Department of Transportation's (DOT) 2024 report on airlines with the most racial discrimination complaints.
