Remembering Comedian Jeon Yu-seong: Posthumous Award and Lasting Legacy

The late comedian Jeon Yu-seong was recently posthumously awarded the Order of Cultural Merit (Ok-gwan Medal) at the '2025 Korea Popular Culture and Arts Awards'.
At the ceremony, a recording of his last words was revealed, deeply moving many attendees.
Jeon Yu-seong passed away on the 25th, and his final message has resonated profoundly with the public.
The awards ceremony took place on the 23rd at the National Theater of Korea Haeoreum Theater in Jung-gu, Seoul, where his daughter accepted the medal on his behalf.
Jeon Yu-seong once remarked, "There are ignorant comedians and knowledgeable comedians," expressing his desire to be perceived as the latter, which left a lasting impression.
His humor and sincere messages provide much food for thought. As a comedian, he went beyond simple laughter, offering people energy and helping them forget the hardships of life.
He remained humble about his achievements and hoped that the awards received by his seniors would also be bestowed upon future generations.

Jeon Yu-seong debuted as a TBC broadcasting writer in 1969 and worked as a comedy writer and comedian, becoming a leading figure in the golden age of comedy in the 70s and 80s.
Programs he appeared in, such as 'Humor Number 1,' 'Show Video Jockey,' 'Youth March,' and 'Gag Concert,' were all iconic works of that era.
Jeon Yu-seong's daughter, Jeon Je-bi, shared her thoughts, remembering her father's final achievement: "Thank you for giving this precious award. I will remember it not as my father's last achievement but as a new memory," which brought tears to many eyes.
The humor and heartfelt sincerity left behind by Jeon Yu-seong will remain in our memories for a long time to come.
