Lee Yi-kyung's Agency Swiftly Shuts Down Privacy Controversy, Activities Unaffected

The agency's quick response prevented the spread of the issue.
Actor Lee Yi-kyung faced a privacy controversy that was resolved in just two days, minimizing any impact on his broadcasting activities.
On May 20th, Lee Yi-kyung's agency, Sangyoung ENT, issued a statement via their official account regarding posts circulating on online communities and social media, declaring, "We are preparing legal action against the spread of false information and malicious rumors that cause damage."
The initial post appeared on a blog but was soon deleted. However, screenshots of the post spread rapidly online, prompting the agency to respond immediately to prevent further damage.
An agency representative stated, "We plan to assess the extent of direct and indirect damages and take all necessary measures," indicating a firm stance against the rumors.
The whistleblower escalated the controversy by releasing photos and videos.
The individual who initiated the controversy, identified as 'A,' claimed to be a German national studying Korean.
Subsequently, 'A' posted photos and videos on their blog and X (formerly Twitter), alleging they were conversations with Lee Yi-kyung, further fueling the allegations.
The online atmosphere quickly intensified, and the content spread rapidly across various communities, even before the facts could be verified.
In response, the agency reiterated its warning, stating, "Indiscriminate posting and distribution are also subject to legal action," urging caution.
This heated situation highlighted the problems associated with the recent trend of online personal exposure.
"It started as a joke..." The whistleblower eventually apologized voluntarily.
Two days later, on May 22nd, 'A' changed their stance and issued an apology via their personal channel.
They explained, "I didn't expect the post, which started as a joke, to receive so much attention. As I continued to write and use AI photos, I started to believe it myself."
They added, "I am truly sorry for spreading malicious rumors about the actor. What started as a fan's interest turned into emotional involvement," and expressed remorse.
Furthermore, they stated, "I will take responsibility for anything I need to be accountable for," effectively concluding the controversy. Afterwards, they reactivated their X account and stated, "I didn't receive any money, and I wasn't threatened. This is all I will say," refusing to comment further.
Broadcasting activities remain unaffected... He appeared on air without any edits.
Despite the controversy, Lee Yi-kyung's broadcasting schedule remained largely unaffected.
He appeared normally on SBS Plus·ENA's 'I am SOLO,' where he is an MC, without any editing. He also recently garnered attention by announcing his addition as a new MC on KBS 2TV's 'The Return of Superman,' and MBC's 'Hangout with Yoo' did not announce his departure.
Thanks to the agency's swift response and the whistleblower's early apology, his activities have remained stable.
The broadcasting industry is also closely monitoring the situation to prevent damage caused by baseless rumors.
Increased AI-based impersonation crimes... Increased awareness required.
Finally, with the recent emergence of cases involving financial damage caused by AI images impersonating actor Lee Jung-jae, warnings about similar incidents are increasing.
While technological advancements offer convenience, they can also lead to serious damage if misused.
As 'A' mentioned "AI photos" in this controversy, distinguishing between fact and fiction online is becoming increasingly difficult.
There is a growing demand among netizens for a more thorough verification culture, and the effectiveness of legal action is also being highlighted.
As reckless accusations targeting celebrities' reputations continue, there is a growing need for social awareness and a responsible online culture.
