KBS Enhances Public Service Broadcasting with Integrated TV License Fee Collection

With the recent amendment to the Broadcasting Act, the integrated collection of TV license fees is now in full swing, bringing new changes to many households.
From November, households with TVs will be billed for the license fee along with their electricity bill. The world is changing so fast! This will provide viewers with a more convenient way to pay their license fee.
KBS anticipates securing a stable source of funding and plans to further strengthen its inherent responsibility as a public broadcaster through this integrated collection.
The ‘Public Service Reinforcement Project’ is a core policy of KBS, focusing on viewer-centric broadcasting innovation and expanding public interest content.
In particular, KBS plans to produce high-quality historical dramas, such as a ‘National History Textbook’ series, every year to deeply illuminate Korea's history and culture.
Production of an authentic historical drama is set to begin with the goal of broadcasting in the second half of next year, which is welcome news for those interested in history!
Additionally, KBS plans to make large-scale project performances, like the one broadcast during this year's Chuseok holiday, a regular event to provide comfort and inspiration to the public.
KBS will also focus on producing high-quality historical content using next-generation media technologies such as AI and XR, which is highly anticipated.
Content will also be planned to address the socially significant issue of low birth rates, and a ‘National Campaign to Overcome Low Birth Rates’ will be produced, highlighting KBS's efforts.
Creating content that parents and children can enjoy together would also be a great help to families!
Furthermore, KBS plans to strengthen communication with viewers every year through ‘Viewer's Day’ and ‘Viewer's Week’ events, transparently disclosing the results of its commitments. Creative broadcasting participation opportunities, such as viewer public service video contests, will also be expanded, increasing opportunities for citizens to directly participate in broadcasting.
Looking back, the integrated TV license fee collection, first implemented in 1994, greatly contributed to stabilizing the finances of public broadcasting.
Subsequently, KBS completely abolished advertisements and enhanced the value of public broadcasting. However, due to changes in recent years, the license fee payment rate has declined, and collection costs have increased, leading to financial difficulties.
It is hoped that the resumption of this integrated collection will help overcome these challenges to some extent. KBS is now establishing a plan to strengthen its public service nature and public interest to the level of a second founding.
You can feel their commitment to repaying the value of the license fees paid by the public. We look forward to seeing what excellent content KBS will present in the future! Viewers, please pay much attention to KBS's changes and innovations!
We hope that each day will bring more anticipation for the broadcasts to come, and please don't forget to share your valuable opinions!
