Hwasa's Transformation: Slim Figure and Chart-Topping Success

Hwasa has once again captivated the world with her unique artistry. This time, it wasn't 'Hwasa on stage,' but rather the sincerity of 'Ahn Hye-jin' as an individual.
"This song is sung as Ahn Hye-jin," Hwasa shared.
Recently, Hwasa showcased a different side of herself in a photoshoot with fashion magazine Harper's Bazaar Korea.
In the released photos, she sports a short bob, opting for comfort and simplicity over intensity. With minimal makeup, she faces the camera with a face that seems to absorb the sunlight.
Her new digital single, **‘Good Goodbye,’** released on the 15th, is a song Hwasa crafted after a long period of introspection.
In an interview, she confessed, “This song is sung as ‘Ahn Hye-jin’ rather than ‘Hwasa.’ Instead of the glamorous character on stage, I poured my heart into it like writing a sincere letter as just one person.”
“I revised the lyrics hundreds of times,” she revealed.
Pouring one's heart into something is never easy. Hwasa said she repeatedly questioned herself, wondering, “Why can’t I write any better?” After countless revisions, the words suddenly flowed out one day.
“That’s when I realized that words that come naturally from within me are more sincere than grand expressions.”
Her new song is filled with straightforward sentences rather than elaborate metaphors. Among them, Hwasa confessed that she wrote the lyrics, “'Goodbye will hurt us, but it will be elegant. Laugh out loud so I regret hitting the ground. Goodbye,' with the most honest heart.”
These lines show Hwasa's way of accepting farewells and the dignity of the word ‘Goodbye.’ It’s not just a simple farewell, but an ‘elegant goodbye’ that beautifully sends each other off while embracing each other's wounds.
“I preferred honesty over charisma,” she said.
In this photoshoot, Hwasa set aside her usual on-stage charisma and showed herself ‘as she is.’
Although the intensity in her eyes was gone, there was a strangely strong warmth within them. Even in her unadorned expressions, her inner strength shone through.
A staff member on set commented, “Hwasa quietly, but overwhelmingly, changes the atmosphere. Her real power lies not in her performance on stage, but in ‘moments where sincerity is felt.’”
‘Good Goodbye’ captures a new narrative.
‘Good Goodbye’ feels like a special turning point and declaration in Hwasa's musical journey.
Through this song, she revealed the human side behind her glamorous image. Not the ‘confident Hwasa’ that the public knew, but perhaps the imperfect yet more genuine voice of ‘Ahn Hye-jin.’
Her attitude towards music has also changed. “Before, I had a strong desire to tear up the stage. But now, I want my sincerity to be felt even on stage. I want to show that I am alive within the song.”
“I’ve worked on both my body and mind for a healthy performance,” she said.
Recently, Hwasa appeared on MAMAMOO member Moonbyul's YouTube channel and revealed that she “changed her workout routine while preparing for her comeback.”
“Because my stage style consumes so much energy, I couldn’t handle it with a thin physique. So, instead of simply ‘losing weight,’ I changed my mindset to ‘building the stamina to endure the stage.’”
She is currently maintaining a weight in the 40kg range, but she added that it was not just an external change, but “a process to find inner balance.”
“Now, I want to tell the story of Ahn Hye-jin, rather than Hwasa.”
Through this activity, Hwasa showed herself beyond the name ‘Hwasa.’
At the end of the interview, she smiled, saying, “I think I am a person who is learning ‘goodbye’ right now.”
“This song is not ‘goodbye,’ but ‘thank you for leaving well.’ And those words are ultimately what I am saying to myself.”
She still shines on stage, but in this ‘Good Goodbye,’ Hwasa quietly but strongly revealed herself.
The ‘goodbye’ she speaks of is not the end—
It was the warmest greeting to a new self.
