Explosions of Revenge and the Beginning of Tragedy: A Review of 'One Day Off' Finale

In the final episode of the drama 'One Day Off,' Kang Eun-soo (Lee Young-ae) and Lee Kyung's (Kim Young-kwang) revenge reaches its peak, resolving all conflicts.
Jang Tae-gu threatens Eun-soo by showing up at her house with a gun, but Park Do-jin (Bae Soo-bin) takes the bullet for her and dies on the spot.
Kang Eun-soo, witnessing this, collapses and wails, crying out, "No, it can't be."
However, on the night she loses her husband, Kang Eun-soo is once again handcuffed by the police in a nightmare-like situation.
Due to Baek Yeo-ju's (Oh Yeon-ah) report, she is charged with drug dealing, and misfortunes continue to pile up.
Since Baek Yeo-ju harbored feelings for Park Do-jin, her emotions have turned into revenge.
After being arrested, Kang Eun-soo faces Lee Kyung. Under the pressure of Choi Kyung-do (Kwon Ji-woo), Lee Kyung makes a statement that seems to protect Eun-soo, saying, "The reason we partnered was because I suggested we sell (drugs) together. I intimidated her." Eun-soo is taken aback by this slightly different version of the truth but accepts it.
However, the most heartbreaking blow comes from her daughter, Park Soo-ah (Kim Si-a).
"I can't forgive Mom and myself. I will never see Mom again." This one sentence destroys everything. In the end, Kang Eun-soo loses both her beloved husband and daughter.
She endures the cold winter alone in prison, comforting herself by writing letters.
Meanwhile, Lee Kyung prepares another act of revenge. Kang Hwi-rim (Do Sang-woo), who was once brought down by the drug video leaked during the press conference, is released and immediately seeks out Lee Kyung, mocking him and asking, "Aren't you taking care of your family?"
In response, Lee Kyung says, "You never think you'll pay the price for committing a crime. What if a chaebol's fourth-generation gossip turns into a death case involving a corporate CEO?"
He delivers a blow that sends Kang Hwi-rim plummeting. This line symbolically reveals that oppressive power will eventually collapse.
Kang Eun-soo and Lee Kyung lure Jang Tae-gu with Choi Kyung-do.
Kang Eun-soo appears to have kidnapped Jang Tae-gu's son, but in reality, he was safely returned to his mother. In this trap, Jang Tae-gu is surrounded by the police and engages in a desperate fight with Lee Kyung.
In the final confrontation, with guns and knives clashing, Jang Tae-gu says, "You and I are alike." At that moment, he is shot by Choi Kyung-do, tries to escape, and falls into the Han River.
Kang Eun-soo bursts into tears, expressing all her emotions. Evil ultimately collapses due to its own karma.
In the end, Kang Eun-soo and Lee Kyung go to prison on drug trafficking charges.
It's a conclusion where no one can escape the consequences. In prison, Kang Eun-soo quietly writes letters, enduring each day, and is released after a year.
After being released, Lee Kyung says, "I wanted to do something for you, just once, without calculating or thinking," and still smiles calmly.
Eun-soo quietly looks into his eyes, leaving a lingering feeling that at least they remain for each other at the end of the fierce revenge.
The drama powerfully conveys the message that the end of revenge is emptiness and that there is always a price to pay for sin, and thus it ended.
