Enjoy Couple's Im Lala Suffers Postpartum Hemorrhage and ICU Transfer, Highlighting Issues with South Korea's Maternal Care System

Im Lala, known for her YouTube channel 'Enjoy Couple,' experienced a postpartum hemorrhage just nine days after giving birth to twins, leading to a critical situation involving emergency room and intensive care unit transfers.
Her husband, Son Min-soo, informed fans via social media that content uploads would be delayed due to Lala's sudden health decline, causing concern among their followers.
He later shared, "Lala suddenly had severe bleeding and was admitted to the ICU after visiting the emergency room. She must be scared to be alone, but I can't be by her side, and there's nothing I can do," emphasizing the seriousness of the situation. Im Lala herself mentioned in a video, "I had a postpartum hemorrhage. Thankfully, I received a blood transfusion and the bleeding stopped, so I'm recovering," recounting her anxious memories.
The problem didn't end there. Im Lala pointed out a significant flaw in the healthcare system, stating, "There were no hospitals that would accept a mother in a very serious condition with postpartum hemorrhage." Son Min-soo added, "I asked them to take her to the nearest and fastest place, but it turned out to be 30 to 40 minutes away."
Eventually, they received a call from the hospital where she had given birth, agreeing to admit her, and they rushed there, arriving after a 40-minute drive. Im Lala, who fainted several times during the journey, lamented, "I think I fainted about 10 times then. I've only seen news about mothers dying while being turned away from hospitals, and it's disheartening that nothing has changed."
She also sharply criticized, "What's the point of addressing the low birth rate if the lives of babies and mothers aren't guaranteed?"
The situation at the time of the bleeding was alarming. Son Min-soo recounted, "Lala's maternity pads were overflowing with blood, spilling onto the floor." He vividly described, "I thought Lala had turned on the bathroom tap inside, but it was the sound of blood pouring out."
The tension continued in the ambulance. He recalled, "Lala kept closing her eyes in the ambulance. The paramedics kept shouting and pressing around her neck." Im Lala revealed, "It's a trauma. The moment when I was unconscious and they told me to wake up was difficult," indicating the deep emotional scars she suffered.
Im Lala explained that she created the video with the hope that "this kind of thing shouldn't happen again, I hope it changes and improves." Her statement, "Why aren't they accepting me when there are so many hospitals? It makes you wonder who would want to have a baby," reflects the anxieties of many mothers.
She reiterated the need for a maternal safety net, saying, "The process of giving birth is truly risking your life. Very serious situations can occur, and I hope there will be an environment where you can receive prompt care."
This is not just a personal experience but a broader questioning of the overall childbirth environment.
While some netizens reacted negatively to Son Min-soo's continued social media updates, the couple clarified that it was for the purpose of documenting and reporting to drive improvements. Comments expressing empathy and support are pouring in, acknowledging the structural problems of the healthcare system experienced firsthand.
The anxiety of the mother and family, who had to rush around with a precarious life, has reminded many people once again how vulnerable the childbirth environment can be.
Im Lala and her husband's courageous confession is expanding beyond a simple issue into a social discussion about the safety and rights of future parents.
