It operates a bit differently from regular buses, so let me explain how it works!

The Ulsan Masil Whale Bus is a demand-responsive transport (DRT) service.

In simple terms, think of it as a bus that comes when you call it.

While regular buses run on fixed schedules and routes, the demand-responsive bus operates based on passenger requests, making it a user-centered service.

Let’s break down the details:

1. Operating Area and Routes (Where can you ride?)

Unlike traditional buses, there are no fixed routes. The bus connects existing city bus stops within the designated operating area.

Main areas include Seongan-dong, Jongga-ro (Innovation City area), and parts of Ulsan Airport and Sangbang Intersection.

You can set your departure and destination points anywhere within this area.

2. Fare and Transfers (How much does it cost?)

The fare is the same as regular buses: 1,500 KRW for adults, 950 KRW for teenagers, and 500 KRW for children, with payment by transportation card only.

3. Operating Hours and Vehicles (When can you ride?)

The service runs on weekdays from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM, with the last call at 9:30 PM.

4. How to Use (How do you ride?)

This bus operates entirely through an app, not by hailing it on the street.

To use the service, download the Ulsan Masil Whale app from the Google Play Store or App Store, register, and set up your payment card.

After that, select your departure and destination stops, enter the number of passengers, and confirm your ride.

Once your request is accepted, you will see the vehicle number and estimated arrival time in the app.

When the bus arrives, tap your transportation card and board. Please note that standing is not permitted.

During my first ride, I found it easy to use. The app provided real-time updates, and the bus arrived as scheduled. The driver was friendly and ensured everyone disembarked safely.

Due to the unique characteristics of Shinan, which has many islands, operating regular public buses is challenging in many areas.

Since 2019, Shinan County has been operating the '1004 Bus' using vans to support the movement of residents in areas with inconvenient transportation.

While the 1004 Bus has been a valuable means of transport for residents, prolonged operation has led to vehicle aging, raising concerns about safety and increased exhaust emissions.

For this reason, Shinan County has decided to convert existing vehicles into eco-friendly electric (van) buses as a way to ensure both resident safety and environmental protection.

This initiative will be promoted under the hometown love donation program, with fundraising taking place from January 19, 2026, to December 31, 2027.

The target fundraising amount for this designated donation project is 1.5 billion KRW, and all donations will be used for:

One of the most common questions we received while preparing our honeymoon was whether it is actually possible to fly to Europe using mileage.

The shuttle is a small 11-seater bus with nine seats arranged in a rounded 'ㄷ' shape. The interior is equipped with convenience features for vulnerable road users, including a large display for providing travel information and a wheelchair lift. Two shuttles are currently being prepared for operation, and they will travel a 4.8km circular route, starting from Cheonggye Plaza, passing through Cheonggye 5-ga (Gwangjang Market), and returning to Cheonggye Plaza.

Trial runs began on August 22nd, and after safety verification, the shuttle will be open to public riders. Operating hours are from 10 AM to 5 PM on weekdays. Service will not be available on Saturdays and public holidays due to the Cheonggyecheon-ro car-free street operation. The fare will be free for the time being, and passengers can board by tapping their transportation card, just like a regular city bus.

Seoul City anticipates that the autonomous shuttle will not only provide an opportunity to experience the future of transportation but will also contribute to revitalizing the local economy, as Cheonggyecheon Stream is a popular destination for both foreign tourists and local citizens.

Yeo Jang-kwon, Head of the Seoul Metropolitan Government's Transportation Bureau, stated, "The driverless autonomous shuttle will become a new milestone in the future of public transportation. We will develop it into a world-class autonomous driving service through future initiatives such as nighttime operation, route expansion, and full automation."

I got on the bus and realized I had neither a transportation card nor cash.

Normally, I breezily tap my T-money card or Kakao Pay, but during my trip, I suddenly thought, "Oh no! I left my wallet at the hotel!" I started to sweat.

So, what do you do when you don't have a transportation card or cash to pay for a Seoul bus?

1. My first attempt: 'Mobile Transportation Card'

When you don't have a transportation card like me, you can install a transportation card app on your smartphone using NFC and use it immediately.

I quickly installed the T-money GO app from Google Play and linked my card.

⚠️ However, be aware that you may not be able to use it right away if your phone doesn't have NFC functionality. iPhones don't work, but most Android phones do.

2. Explain the situation to the bus driver

I was so flustered that I immediately told the driver, "I forgot my transportation card, what should I do?"

Some Seoul bus drivers are understanding and will let you ride to the nearest stop or just tell you, "Make sure you bring your card next time!" and let you ride.

Fortunately, the driver that day was kind and said, "It's okay, just remember to bring it next time." (I was so grateful! 🙏)

3. Charge your transportation card at a nearby convenience store

If you're able to before boarding the bus, buying or charging a transportation card at a convenience store is the most reliable option.

GS25, CU, and 7-Eleven almost all sell/charge transportation cards.

I couldn't do it since I was already on the bus, but I ran to the nearest convenience store after getting off.

4. What if you're a tourist without a transportation card?

If you're traveling in Seoul, I highly recommend installing mobile payment methods such as Kakao Pay Transportation, Samsung Pay Transportation Card, or the T-money GO app in advance.

For foreign tourists, it's easier to buy an Mpass or T-money card right at the airport.

The lesson I learned:

Seoul buses operate on a pre-payment system, so you must have either cash or a transportation card.

There used to be a time when you could pay the driver in cash and get change, but these days, it's mostly card-based, and many drivers don't even accept cash.

Thanks to this experience, I learned the lesson that I shouldn't leave my wallet behind when traveling! 😅

When I was using the lounge, only the Prestige East Garden was showing as Smooth.

The other two were all Very Crowded, so I used the Prestige East Garden.

The Prestige East Garden Lounge is located near Gate 281.

It was quite a journey as it's located at the very end of the east side...

After completing the departure security check,

head towards Gates 249-291.

From here, it took about 15 minutes on foot.

You'll see the Korean Air Prestige East Lounge on your left as you walk.

Although it was showing as Very Crowded,

I took the escalator up just in case, but

there were already too many people waiting... so I immediately gave up and moved to the East Garden.

If you keep going,

there are still many stores that are scheduled to open,

and it's sparsely populated, so you might be unsure, but

you can find it if you continue towards Gate 281????

✔ Prestige East Garden Lounge Entrance

When you enter the entrance, there are stairs straight ahead,

and an elevator on your right.

After checking your passport and boarding pass at the counter,

scan the barcode on your boarding pass to enter!

(You must scan your boarding pass again when you leave.)

✔ Prestige East Garden Lounge Interior and Shower Room

There are lockers to store personal belongings.

There's a screen displaying flight schedules, gate information, and current status,

so it's good to check it from time to time!

I arrived at the Prestige East Garden Lounge around 5:30 PM on Saturday,

was able to enter immediately,

and although some tables were occupied,

I was able to use it comfortably :)

The garden view is also great.

It's very clean and pleasant!

There are wide table seats,

and separate seating areas for private use,

so it's great to use them according to your preference~

The restrooms are hotel-quality,

and there's a spacious and comfortable diaper changing area for babies.

The shower room is available by reservation,

but there's quite a wait,

so if you plan to use the shower room, I recommend making a reservation as soon as you arrive and then using the lounge!

✔ Prestige East Garden Lounge Food

Korean food, Western food, salads, sandwiches, bakery items, cup noodles, ham & cheese, fruit, juice, coffee, liquor, and soda

were all prepared in various types.

Before the flight,

it was great to have a quick bite, rest,

and relax!

Salads, fruit salads, bean salads, and cherry tomatoes.

There were also pork cutlet kimbap and vegetable kimbap.

There was rice and bibimbap ingredients,

so you can make it to your liking.

Sweet and sour chicken and kimchi pancakes.

There was also tuna kimchi fried rice and stir-fried baeksundae.

The porridge and soup options were

vegetable porridge with soy sauce and sesame oil, and budae jjigae.

There were caprese sandwiches, turkey swiss cheese sandwiches, cheese and ham.

For bakery and desserts,

there were bread, cookies, muffins, cakes, peanut butter, butter and jam, and Nutella.

Two types of cup noodles

Shin Ramyun and Tempura Udon were available.

Bananas and apples. The apples were all gone...

There's a separate bar area,

and you can request whiskey, wine, beer, cocktail liquor menu, and soda at the bar!

There are various options for orange, apple, tomato juice, milk, and coffee.

In the Western food corner, there was basil pasta and beef stew.

I ate well, rested well, and moved to board the plane!

Korean Air Prestige Lounge East Garden was a great place to eat lightly, simply, and rest comfortably.

If you have plenty of time and want to rest comfortably, it seems like a good place to enjoy some leisure.

However, I was disappointed by the location being too far away. (A 30-minute walk round trip...)

What Is the Han River Bus?

The Han River Bus is a new form of public water transportation that officially began operation on September 18, 2025.

It is an eco-friendly water bus running along the Han River, designed for both Seoul residents and visiting tourists.

One of its most interesting features is that you can board using a standard transportation card, just like a subway or city bus, and even receive transfer benefits.

While it was originally introduced to improve commuting convenience, it already feels better suited for sightseeing and leisure.

Han River Bus Routes, Schedule, and Fares

The Han River Bus currently operates across seven docks: Magok, Mangwon, Yeouido, Apgujeong, Oksu, Ttukseom, and Jamsil.

The full route spans a total distance of 28.9 kilometers, connecting major Han River parks and urban areas.

There are two main operating types. The local route stops at all docks and takes approximately 127 minutes, while the express route stops only at major docks and takes about 82 minutes.

I joined on its very first day, boarding at Mangwon Dock and heading toward Yeouido. The dock was crowded, filled with excitement, broadcast cameras, and curious riders.

A Perfect Weekend to Ride the Han River Bus

Last weekend’s weather felt just right for a Han River outing. With the Mureungdowon Festival happening nearby, it felt like the perfect excuse to finally try the Han River Bus.

The departure point was Apgujeong Pier. Because the Han River Bus has become quite popular, arriving early is essential.

I arrived about 40 minutes before departure, but due to a slight delay, the actual waiting time stretched to almost an hour. The fare is simple and affordable at 3,000 won, payable by transportation card.

From Apgujeong to Ttukseom by River

This ride was from Apgujeong to Ttukseom. The Han River Bus itself has a slightly retro exterior, which gives it a charming and approachable feel.

After lunch, the journey back to Chuncheon began at Incheon Airport. The assigned vehicle was a Gangwon Express premium bus operating on the airport route.

The Gochang–Incheon Airport express bus operates twice a day, departing from Gochang Public Bus Terminal at 12:05 AM and 9:50 AM.

The bus passes through Jeongeup and Gimje before arriving at Incheon International Airport, serving both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.

Scheduled arrival times at Terminal 1 are approximately 7:55 AM and 5:25 PM, while Terminal 2 arrivals are around 7:30 AM and 5:00 PM.
