Exploring Coffee Lusso and Cecil Maru in Jeongdong

Hello, everyone! After visiting the Seoul Museum of Art in Jeongdong during episode 1, I took some time to relax at the charming 'Coffee Lusso,' known for its red brick exterior.
I'm excited to share my memories of my favorite street, Jeongdong-gil.
Even at the end of winter, Jeongdong still holds a serene and warm atmosphere.
'Coffee Lusso' stands out as a landmark with its striking red brick facade.
As you stroll down Jeongdong-gil, one building captures your attention: Coffee Lusso Jeongdong. The retro vibe is palpable from the entrance!
The large windows and deep gray door blend beautifully with the brick, creating an illusion of being in a European street. Many people were sitting on the bench in front, taking photos, and the natural light ensures that any shot turns out to be a 'picture-perfect moment.'
'Coffee Lusso' offers a wonderful window view, allowing you to enjoy the everyday scenery outside!
The main reason I visit Lusso is for this 'window view.' Watching the tree-lined street and people walking by calms my mind.
Even though it's in the middle of the city, sitting here feels like time slows down. Enjoying a cup of coffee while gazing out the window is my little happiness.
✨ The interior design balances emotion and warmth!
Upon entering, you’re welcomed by a spacious area with high ceilings. I particularly love the industrial vibe from the exposed pipes and black pendant lights. While the design could feel cold, the wooden furniture and warm lighting add a cozy touch.
Climbing the stairs to the second floor reveals an even larger space! The communal table at the center is perfect for gatherings and also provides a comfortable atmosphere for solo laptop work.
☕️ Coffee! It’s time to focus on the pure taste!
On this day, I ordered an iced Americano, craving something clean and refreshing. Lusso is famous for its coffee beans, right? The sound of ice in a clear glass and the rich aroma of coffee...
Initially, there’s a hint of acidity, but it finishes with a nutty richness, which is just my style. As I neared the end of my drink, I found the remaining ice visually appealing and snapped a photo (the true blogger's way!).
Let’s take a look at the framed photos on the wall. The black-and-white images reflecting the spirit of Jeongdong make it feel like a small gallery.
After enjoying my coffee, I headed to the nearby hidden gem, 'Cecil Maru.' This observatory is located on the rooftop of the Jeongdong Cecil Theater, and riding the elevator up reveals a stunning view.
From here, you can see the exotic roof of the Cathedral of the Korean Anglican Church and the stone wall of Deoksugung Palace. If you visit Lusso, make sure to stop by Cecil Maru; it’s a must-see, and the entrance is free!
After recharging with warm coffee at Coffee Lusso, I made my way to the National Jeongdong Theater, where the Cecil Maru observatory awaits!
As you approach the entrance of the National Jeongdong Theater, you’ll find a conveniently labeled elevator to Cecil Maru. Riding it up, you’ll be greeted by a clean and modern atmosphere, raising your expectations!
✨ Enjoy the Romanesque splendor that unfolds before your eyes!
As the elevator doors opened, I couldn’t help but exclaim, "Wow..." The view of the Cathedral of the Korean Anglican Church was breathtakingly surreal.
The harmony of red tiles and stone structures! The blend of traditional Korean tile roofs and Western Romanesque architecture creates a unique view not found anywhere else in Seoul. It feels as if time has stopped in this exotic atmosphere, contrasting with the modern buildings seen behind the church.
The rooftop observatory has white benches for resting, making it a healing experience just to sit there against the backdrop of the cathedral.
Shall we enjoy the view of Deoksugung Palace and Jeongdong?
Turning away from the cathedral view, you can take in the charm of Deoksugung. The winding stone wall and the serene hanok buildings beyond it...
Though the bare branches hint at the end of winter, the view of Jeongdong is calm and warm. The low-hanging clouds create an even more dreamy atmosphere.
As you stroll around, you’ll continue to encounter the unique blend of tradition and modernity that characterizes Jeongdong. I thought it would be lovely to sit at the outdoor tables and enjoy the weather once it warms up.
Visiting Tip for Cecil Maru!
Location: 16 Sejong-daero 19-gil, Jung-gu, Seoul (use the elevator) Entrance Fee: Free (it's hard to believe such a fantastic view is free!) Best Photo Spot: The front bench where the cathedral is most visible!
If you’re planning a date or a walk along Jeongdong-gil, grab a cup of coffee at Coffee Lusso and definitely visit Cecil Maru. You’ll experience the most peaceful 10 minutes in the bustling city of Seoul.
Did you enjoy my snippets of daily life in Jeongdong? I’ll be back with more beautiful spaces to share! Goodbye!
