A Morning Walk in Seoul
서울특별시 종로구 새문안로 45

On a quiet Monday morning in mid-December, I spent about an hour and a half walking through some of Seoul’s most historic and atmospheric areas. The route connected open squares, palace walls, cultural streets, and temples, creating a calm yet deeply urban experience.
This walk was not about rushing through landmarks, but about observing how Seoul feels in the early morning. Empty plazas, soft winter light, and the contrast between modern city life and centuries-old history made the journey memorable.
Starting the Morning at Seoul Plaza
The walk began at Seoul Plaza, where the city feels unusually quiet in the early hours. Without the daytime crowds, the open space allowed for a slow start, setting a relaxed rhythm for the rest of the journey.
Walking Along Deoksugung Stonewall Path
From the plaza, the path naturally led to the stone wall road of Deoksugung. This section is especially peaceful in the morning, with the long wall guiding each step and soft shadows stretching across the pavement.
Quiet Streets of Jeongdong-gil
Jeongdong-gil offers a unique blend of history and everyday Seoul life. Old buildings, embassies, and small streets come together, making it a place where walking itself becomes the main experience.
Passing Gyeonghuigung and the Seoul Museum of History
Continuing on, the route passed Gyeonghuigung and the Seoul Museum of History. These spaces reminded me how closely Seoul’s daily life exists alongside its historical layers.
Open Space at Gwanghwamun Square
Gwanghwamun Square felt wide and open, with fewer people than usual. The scale of the space becomes more noticeable in the morning, allowing time to pause and take in the surroundings.
A Brief Stop Near the Central Post Office
The walk continued past the central post office area, where modern infrastructure blends into the historic city center. Even ordinary buildings felt different in the quiet morning setting.
Ending the Walk at Jogyesa Temple
The final destination was Jogyesa Temple. The calm atmosphere and subtle sounds made it a fitting end to the walk, offering a moment of reflection before returning to daily routines.
