A Mecca for Food Lovers Nationwide
Yesan, Chungnam Province

I visited Yesan Market as part of a Chungcheongnam-do Citizen Reporter Fam Tour. Yesan, Chungnam, is a mecca for food lovers across the country.
▲ Yesan Market
I visited the other day, and it was a charming traditional market that retained its retro sensibility while incorporating modern elements.
From Shinkwang Butcher Shop in Yesan Market, where people line up to eat, to the traditional Gukbap (soup with rice) Street where you can enjoy a hearty meal, and the special food enjoyed in the market's unique friendly atmosphere, it was a space where taste, memories, and people intertwined.
Let me introduce it in detail.
▲ Yesan Market

2. Exploring Yesan Market
Since it was a weekday, there were empty spaces in the parking lot.
▲ Gukbap (Soup with Rice) Street
After parking, Gukbap Street caught my eye first.
I could feel the excitement of people who came to have lunch, such as So Meori Gukbap (beef head soup) and Yesan Jangteo Gukbap.
The street was neatly organized.
▲ Yesan Noodle House
Looking around, I noticed a lot of noodle restaurants.
I saw signs for Yesan Jangteo Noodles, Kalguksu (knife-cut noodles), Yedang Noodles, Yega Noodles, etc.
This is where noodle mills have been located since the 1950s, and old establishments have been continuing the family business for three generations.
The 'Sak Noodle,' where villagers made noodles from the flour they brought and received wages, has now grown into a local specialty.
I entered the Yesan Permanent Market and headed to the Jangteo Square.
▲ Yesan Market
It had a retro atmosphere but was neatly organized, and there were quite a few visitors enjoying lunch.
▲ Yesan Market
I also saw grandmothers selling vegetables and clothing stores selling pretty fleece vests.
▲ Yesan Market
There was also a place selling Dubai Chapssaltteok (sticky rice cake), Strawberry Chapssaltteok, and Sweet Potato Mochi Bread.
▲ Seonbong Noodles
The famous Seongbong Noodles had people lined up even on weekdays.
▲ Market Chicken Stir-fry
The Market Chicken Stir-fry restaurant was also crowded, and Bongsan Udon and Apple Confectionery also caught my eye.
▲ Bongsan Udon
There were already many people in Jangteo Square, but fortunately, there were seats left, so I quickly grabbed one.

3. Enjoying Samgyeopsal (Pork Belly)
Today, we decided to eat Samgyeopsal at Shinkwang Butcher Shop.
▲ Grill Rental House
First, I purchased a table setting for two at 'Grill Rental House' and ordered two bowls of rice. It costs 12,000 won for two people.
▲ Table Setting
The table setting was simple, consisting of green onion salad, kimchi, vegetables, and ssamjang (soybean dipping sauce).
At 'Grill Rental House,' you can purchase not only soft drinks but also alcoholic beverages such as Makgeolli (rice wine) and Cheongha (refined rice wine).
▲ Shinkwang Butcher Shop
I went to Shinkwang Butcher Shop and bought meat with the Yesan Love Gift Certificate.

>The prices were: Samgyeopsal (pork belly) at 5,900 won, pork skirt meat at 5,900 won, Doraechang (pork diaphragm) at 4,900 won and back meat at 5,000 won.
The handwritten price tag felt friendly.

Yesan Love Gift Certificates and Onnuri Gift Certificates can also be used here.
▲ Enjoying Samgyeopsal
We put the two servings of meat we bought on the grill.
▲ Enjoying Samgyeopsal
The meat was grilled deliciously, and we ate it with ssam (wraps).
In particular, it went so well with the green onion salad that I was able to eat really delicious Samgyeopsal for the first time in a long time.
▲ Samgyeopsal is popular.
Looking around, there were quite a few teams grilling Samgyeopsal.
▲ Kkwari Chicken Stew
The Kkwari Chicken Stew that came out on the next table also looked very delicious.
I felt even better enjoying delicious food at a reasonable price.
5. Overall Review
Yesan Market in Chungnam was a day trip where you could taste the 'taste of home'.
It is an attractive place that is well-organized so that visitors can enjoy the market comfortably, with a retro sensibility and modern convenience.
In particular, the unique gourmet culture formed as the market became active was attractive.
▲ Yesan Market
The abundance of Gukbap Street and the history of noodle restaurants that have been around for three generations coexist, giving you a sense of the depth of taste.
The lively appearance of visitors, the friendly merchants, and the variety of cheap and delicious food were a special space where taste, memories, and the warmth of people came together.
It is a 'mecca for food lovers nationwide' that is worth recommending to those looking for a cost-effective gourmet experience and a place to enjoy retro sensibility, and it is a place I would definitely like to visit again next time.
You can enjoy it more abundantly by using the Yesan Love Gift Certificate.
