Winter at Busodam Rock

Winter at Busodam Rock
Busodam Rock, one of the nine scenic spots in Okcheon, is a majestic rock formation that rises above the water. It showcases breathtaking views in any season.
With a walking path surrounding it, Busodam Rock is perfect for a leisurely stroll while enjoying the beautiful natural scenery that complements Daecheong Lake.
Located in Chusori, Okcheon County, you can reach Busodam Rock by walking along the path. The starting points for the trail are either the Chusori village square or in front of Hwangnyongsa Temple.
I parked at the Chusori village square and walked along the trail, which features a clean map and legends related to Busodam Rock.
According to a legend, a shabby scholar passing through this village once gazed at the large mountain in front and said, "Based on feng shui, hundreds of years later, this village will transform into a scene where a great mountain floats in deep water, and people will call it Busodam Rock." After saying this, he vanished without a trace.
The walking path consists of dirt trails, deck paths, and mat paths, covering 800 meters to Chusojung Pavilion.
Though the chilly wind made me tighten my coat, I gradually warmed up as I walked.
Along the path, I admired Busodam Rock.
Atop the rocks, there is a pavilion called Chusojung, surrounded by stunning cliffs.
As I walked, I encountered a fork in the path leading to Hwangnyongsa parking lot and Chusojung.
From this point, the deck path continues, ascending and descending along stairs.
I spotted ducks floating on the lake.
There were signs at every intersection, making it easy to navigate.
The trail is mostly flat, but the last section has a slight incline.
Chusojung stands tall at the highest point of Busodam Rock, offering a spectacular view.
Busodam Rock stretches 700 meters and is said to resemble a miniature Geumgangsan Mountain, a site of great beauty.
Originally a mountain, part of it submerged when the Daecheong Dam was completed, creating a landscape that resembles a rocky screen above the water.
Beyond Chusojung, you can walk further along Busodam Rock, but you will eventually reach a dead end where entry is prohibited for safety reasons.
After passing Chusojung, I continued walking along the trail leading to Hwangnyongsa.
The deck path leads to Hwangnyongsa, with a right turn taking you to the cruise ship dock.
There was a cruise ship at the dock.
I expected the cruise to be closed for winter, but it was operating, and I boarded the ship.
The cruise fare is 10,000 won per person.
I worried about the cold on the boat, but there were windbreaks and heaters, so it was quite comfortable.
I slowly sailed towards the rocky screen.
At the viewpoint of the rocky screen, the windbreaks were removed, allowing us to enjoy the view.
While I found it a bit disappointing not to see the rocky screen from the trail, the cruise offered a perfect view.
I could also see Chusojung, where I had walked earlier.
Cruising along the river, I felt the beauty of nature, then walked back along the trail to Hwangnyongsa.
Busodam Rock is recognized as one of Korea's 100 beautiful rivers by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
The scenery of Busodam Rock, experienced by walking the trail and taking the cruise, is indescribably beautiful.
The rocky cliffs that spread like a folding screen are a gift from nature, showcasing stunning views even in winter.
Come and experience the beauty of nature at Busodam Rock, where you can forget the cold.
