▲ Sky Bike at Daecheon Beach, operational even in winter

"Are you really going to the harbor on such a cold day? And tasting ice cream too? Isn't just standing around hard enough, and now you want to ride a rail bike?"

This itinerary almost feels like a rebellion against winter, as if one were a green frog choosing destinations that are the opposite of winter.

But there's a saying that cold is best dealt with by embracing it.

So, let's bundle up and prepare our hearts, setting off to Boryeong with a determined spirit. Why? Because even that is romantic.

▲ Yeongbojeong Pavilion located at the top of Chungcheongsu Fortress

1. Chungcheongsu Fortress

"Is it too much to call it the 'Venice of Chungcheongnam-do'?" Honestly, I hesitate.

However, looking at the boats scattered across the harbor, I can't deny that the scenery is just as stunning.

At the top of the fortress stands a small pavilion called Yeongbojeong. On a particularly windy day, I hesitated to take off my shoes to go up, but it allows for an incredible view of both the sea and sky. The first taste of winter romance.

2. Hakseongri Dinosaur Footprint Fossils

I expected to find a dinosaur sculpture nearby, but was taken aback by the sight of a large dinosaur on the water as I drove.

"Wait, there's a dinosaur on the sea?"

In 2015, more than ten dinosaur footprints from the Cretaceous period were discovered here, dating back 100 million years. The footprints, measuring 20-30 cm in diameter, remain on the beach, and can be seen during low tide.

Due to the strong winds, I only managed to look at the dinosaur and then returned. Being surrounded by the sea made me feel as if I had traveled back in time.

▲ Oysters, known as the milk of the sea! Winter is the season for oysters!

3. Cheonbuk Oyster Farm

Generally, the oyster season is from October to March, but the best time to enjoy them is right now.

The next destination is the Cheonbuk Oyster Farm, famous for its delicious oysters due to its location by the West Sea.

Oysters are a must-try seasonal delicacy! Whether steamed, in pancakes, or grilled, each dish bursts with the flavor of the sea. After indulging in a variety of oyster dishes, I felt as if I had plunged into the ocean.

▲ Enjoying milk ice cream in the middle of winter!

4. Boryeong Milk Warehouse

Rich in balanced nutrients like protein, zinc, iron, calcium, and vitamins, oysters are called the 'milk of the sea'. Now, it’s time to meet real milk!

The Boryeong Milk Warehouse is a café and experiential space where you can taste organic milk produced directly by Boryeong Milk. Upon entering, I was drawn to the cute merchandise.

This place offers not just milk, but also drinks, ice cream, and cheese-making experiences.

After taking a moment to catch my breath, I bravely headed toward the thrilling experience of the ocean sky bike.

▲ The first marine skywalk in Korea!

5. Daecheon Beach Sky Bike

The final destination is the Daecheon Beach Sky Bike, where you can enjoy both thrills and ocean views.

"It’s going to be really cold today, but there will be romance." Is it the romance of facing the cold?

The Daecheon Beach Sky Bike, the first marine skywalk in Korea, offers an exhilarating experience riding along a rail installed 8-15 meters above sea level.

Each bike accommodates 2 to 4 people, and infants can join with a guardian, making it perfect for family outings.

It takes about 30-35 minutes to complete the 2.3 km round trip. In winter, it’s advisable to prepare for the cold before riding.

The advantage is that the entire route operates electrically, making it easy, and riding late allows you to glide over the gently lapping waves below, creating an even more special experience.

Today was a reminder that I am not the only one wanting to enjoy the romance of winter.

Quiet yet special, that was the winter romance!
