The Sinan County presents a planned exhibition that modernly reinterprets the artistic spirit of late Joseon painter Jo Hee-ryong.
‘Unyielding Spirit (不肯車後) – Plum Blossom Paintings by Seven Artists’
will be held from February 11 (Wed) to April 30 (Thu)
at the Jo Hee-ryong Art Museum's exhibition hall.
✨ Exhibition Introduction
This exhibition is based on Jo Hee-ryong's lifelong emphasis on 'Unyielding Spirit (不肯車後)',
which means "not following others' carts but walking one's own path."
It showcases the firm artistic belief of the artist.
Sinan County introduces works by seven contemporary artists themed around the plum blossom.
🌸 Meaning of Plum Blossoms and Imjado Island
Plum blossoms endure the cold winter and bloom first,
symbolizing the strong spirit of the artist.
Especially, Imjado Island, where Jo Hee-ryong was exiled,
is a space where his artistic world deepened.
This exhibition aims to convey deeper emotions by incorporating the history and locality of Imjado Island.
🎨 Participating Artists and Exhibition Composition
The exhibition features seven artists: Shin Ha-soon, Seong Tae-hoon, Lee Gil-woo,
Yoo Dae-soo, Jo Poong-ryu, Jo Yong-baek, and Choi Soon-nyung.
Each artist presents their unique interpretation of the plum blossom world,
creating a special exhibition where tradition meets modernity.

From February 27 to March 2, the 'Imjado Red Plum Blossom Festival' will also be held.
Visitors can enjoy the exhibition while appreciating the blooming red plum blossoms across the island.
