The Okdang-ri Filial Piety Pine Tree in Jangheung: A Tale of Devotion

Hello!
This is Jangheung Travel.
Today, we're introducing you to the <Jangheung Okdang-ri Filial Piety Pine Tree>, a place with a beautiful legend.
<Jangheung Okdang-ri Filial Piety Pine Tree> is designated as Natural Monument No. 356 and can be found at 178 Okdang-ri, Gwansan-eup, Jangheung-gun, Jeollanam-do!
The Okdang-ri Filial Piety Pine Tree, also known as the Black Pine, resembles a large umbrella when viewed from afar.
Interestingly, a persimmon tree grows directly beneath it, appearing to act as a support, creating an image reminiscent of a child supporting their parents.
Fittingly, there's a legend associated with the Filial Piety Pine Tree! About 150 years ago, three young men lived here. Seeing their elderly mother working in the fields on a hot summer day, they decided to plant trees to provide her with shade.
They each planted a pine tree, a persimmon tree, and a Picrasma quassioides tree. It is said that only the pine tree remains today.
The key point is that it was planted as a resting place for their single mother who was farming, hence the name "Filial Piety Pine Tree!"
Like the legend of being planted for the resting place of a single mother, the pine tree is not very tall, but its branches spread widely, providing ample shade!
It's located not far from the Cheongwan Mountain parking lot, so if you're climbing Cheongwan Mountain, we recommend visiting the <Jangheung Okdang-ri Filial Piety Pine Tree>!
