The Charm of Jecheon Jeongbangsa Temple in Winter

Jeongbangsa Temple is located on the rugged cliffs of Geumsusan Mountain.
It is famous for its breathtaking views of Cheongpung Lake below.
Although the path is steep, the serene atmosphere of the temple combined with the stunning scenery at the end makes it a captivating destination.
In December, we explore four attractions that showcase the charm of this winter mountain temple.
View of Cheongpung Lake

One of the biggest attractions of Jeongbangsa is the view from its courtyard.
The flowing waters of Cheongpung Lake (Chungju Lake) and the surrounding mountains are visible without any obstructions.
Particularly, the scenery from in front of the main hall or beside the Jijangjeon hall is said to be impressive.
In December, if it snows, you can expect a winter landscape blanketed in white.
Main Hall Built Against the Cliff

Jeongbangsa is situated beneath a massive rock formation known as 'Uisangdae' on Geumsusan Mountain.
The unique sight of the buildings tightly nestled against or leaning on the cliff is striking.
The nearly vertical cliff combined with the temple structures creates a breathtaking and mystical atmosphere.
Sense of Accomplishment at the End of the Steep Path

Visitors must walk up a somewhat steep path from the parking lot to the temple.
This path, composed of an inclined paved road and stairs, takes about 15 to 20 minutes to navigate.
In December, the path can be slippery, so wearing comfortable and safe shoes is essential.
When you arrive, breathless, the scenery that unfolds before you feels like a reward.
Pine Tree Growing from a Rock Crevice
One old pine tree growing through a crack beside the main hall also catches the eye.
This pine tree harmonizes beautifully with the cliff and the view of Cheongpung Lake, creating a unique composition.
Many visitors take commemorative photos with this pine tree as their backdrop.
