I'm a Muju native and SNS supporter, here to introduce you to amazing travel destinations in Muju. Today, we're exploring Susimdae, the 12th scenic wonder of Gucheondong Valley in Deogyusan National Park.
Susimdae, with its harmonious blend of bizarre rocks and pine trees, has long been called 'Little Geumgang' or 'Geumgang Peak' because of its resemblance to the famous Geumgang Mountain. It's especially popular during the fall foliage season when visitors flock to admire the breathtaking scenery.

The Origin and Features of Susimdae
The name 'Susimdae' is said to have originated from a Buddhist monk named Ilja, who attained great enlightenment after seeing his reflection in the clear waters here during the Silla Dynasty. Access is still restricted, allowing it to preserve its untouched natural beauty.
This area is a river terrace formed in the quartz andesite region of the Mesozoic Cretaceous period, featuring uniquely shaped cliffs and rocks that create a distinctive landscape. The lush green pine trees peeking through the cliffs add to its picturesque charm.
Exploring Susimdae
While direct access to the valley is currently prohibited, you can still appreciate the distant Susimdae cliffs and valley waters from the bridge in the middle. Although it's a bit disappointing not to get closer, it's also special to witness the pristine, untouched beauty that's been preserved thanks to this restriction.
Looking at Susimdae from afar, I felt a sense of grandeur and refreshing energy, and the coolness seemed to wash away the summer heat.
In Conclusion
Susimdae, the 12th scenic wonder of Muju's Gucheondong Valley, possesses a unique charm.
Even though I couldn't enter the valley directly, it felt even more beautiful because it has retained its natural state.
