Summer Retreat at Sasendae Valley in Geochang

As summer approaches, many of us yearn for a refreshing getaway to cool valleys.
In Geochang, Gyeongnam, there are several valleys perfect for escaping the summer heat.
Today, I would like to introduce Sasendae, located in the Wolsong Valley of Geochang.
On my visit on August 8, 2026, the weather was slightly rainy, but being a Saturday, many people were enjoying water activities at Sasendae.
The address to reach Sasendae Valley is: 239-2 Wolsong-ri, Bukseong-myeon, Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam.
Parking is available along the roadside, and from there, you can stroll along the Seocheuldongryu waterway.
Seocheuldongryu literally means 'flowing from the west to the east.' The clear waters flowing through the Wolsong Valley, combined with the lush greenery surrounding it, truly allow you to experience the essence of a summer valley.
Walking slowly along the Seocheuldongryu waterway while listening to the sound of flowing water makes you forget the heat and fatigue of daily life.
As you walk along the waterway, you can also catch a glimpse of the famous Sasendae, known as one of the nine scenic spots of Bukseong.
The stacked rocks at Sasendae resemble a side profile of a human face. This four-tiered rock formation is named Sasendae because of a legend that a hermit played Go on the stones.
It's fascinating to see trees growing in what seems like nutrient-poor rock crevices, showcasing nature's unique landscapes.
During the summer vacation season, many families were seen enjoying water activities at Sasendae Valley.
Despite the light rain during my visit, the cooler weather made it pleasant for walking around the valley.
Recent heavy rainfall in Geochang has likely increased the water volume in Sasendae Valley.
However, be cautious when playing in the water, as the flow can suddenly become faster or the depth can change after rain.
If visiting with children, it's advisable to bring safety equipment like life jackets and to enjoy water activities in safer areas rather than in deep or fast-flowing spots.
You can enjoy exploring around Sasendae, but if you're up for a bit more walking, consider following the Seocheuldongryu waterway from Sansugyo through Wolsong Village to Hwangjeom Village.
Even if you don't partake in water activities, sitting by the valley and listening to the refreshing sound of water is a great way to relax.
There are clean restrooms available by the roadside at Sasendae, making it convenient for visitors.
Additionally, there is information about the thirteen scenic spots of Bukseong outside the restroom, providing an opportunity to explore nearby attractions.
It might be a good idea to plan a trip to explore other sights in Bukseong while visiting Wolsong Valley.
