Sinan County Intensifies Guidance for Timely Rice Harvesting to Prevent Rice Blast Spread

Sinan County is intensifying guidance for timely harvesting to minimize damage and prevent the spread of rice blast, which has been rapidly spreading due to recent prolonged high temperatures and heavy rains.
Rice blast mainly occurs in hot and humid environments, and is common in reclaimed land with low soil fertility or sandy soil areas with insufficient nutrients during the late growth stage of rice.
This disease is known to directly affect not only yield reduction but also rice quality degradation.
Sinan County is currently providing pesticides to approximately 8,400 ha of affected areas and is guiding farmers with confirmed damage to promptly report crop damage insurance before harvesting.
In addition, the county plans to establish customized control measures by precisely analyzing soil samples from frequently occurring areas to prepare for next year's farming.
Along with this, the county will continuously promote on-site technical guidance and farmer education to improve soil fertility, such as encouraging the application of silicate fertilizer, returning rice straw to the soil, and expanding the input of organic matter.
