Shinan's First Harvest of New Gim (Seaweed) from Pristine Tidal Flats!

Shinan's first harvest of new gim (seaweed), grown in the clean waters of Shinan-gun, has begun its full-scale release!
The 2026 harvest of new gim, grown in the pristine sea of Shinan-gun, officially started production with its first auction on November 5th.
At the first auction held at Umoek Port in Anjwa-myeon and Jeomam Wharf in Jido-eup,
approximately 300 nets (36 tons) of 'Gopchang Gim' (Itbaridolgim, a type of wrinkled seaweed) were traded, with gim harvested from the Shindo waters of Hai-myeon fetching the highest price of 600,000 won per 120kg.
'Gopchang Gim' is known for its superior texture and flavor compared to regular dolgim (rock seaweed).
It is gaining attention as a premium K-Food product in both domestic and international markets.
Recently, exports have been steadily increasing,
raising the profile of Shinan gim in the global market.
Shinan-gun cultivates gim using traditional pole farming methods on pristine tidal flats designated as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
This method, which involves naturally drying the seaweed in the sun using the ebb and flow of tides,
is considered the best technique for preserving the inherent flavor and taste of the gim.
Shinan's pole-grown gim accounts for over 65% of the nation's total production and is distributed to regions such as Haenam, Seocheon, and Buan,
where it is recognized as 'premium gim' among consumers.
An official from Shinan-gun stated, "We will actively support the seaweed industry, which has gained global recognition, to further enhance its growth,
increase the income of fishing households, and improve the quality of the product."
Experience the taste of Shinan's sea and sunshine with the new harvest of Shinan gim this winter, right on your table! ✨
