Shinan County Creates Artificial Reefs to Enrich the Diamond Sea

Shinan County is accelerating the restoration of fisheries resources in the Diamond Sea by deploying the final artificial reefs this year, aiming to create a sustainable marine ecosystem.
✅ Final Deployment of 123 Artificial Reefs This Year
Shinan County has completed the final deployment of 123 artificial reefs in the Diamond Sea this year, bringing the total to 191 artificial reefs installed this year.
These newly deployed artificial reefs were designed considering the environment and characteristics of the area. They are optimized for fisheries resource recovery by providing shelter and spawning grounds for aquatic organisms, and featuring structures that aid seaweed attachment.
All these processes were selected after deliberation by the Fisheries Resource Spawning and Habitat Management Committee.
✅ Large-Scale Habitat Creation Project Investing 9 Billion KRW from 2022 to 2026
Shinan County is promoting a 9 billion KRW project over five years, starting in 2022, focusing on creating spawning and habitats for major fish species such as rockfish and black rockfish.
Achievements to date include:
✔ Deployment of 1,095 artificial reefs
✔ Release of 1.3 million fish fry
✔ Establishment of a foundation for habitat expansion and ecosystem restoration
Through these efforts, the Diamond Sea is establishing itself as a 'nest' for fisheries resources.
✅ Preparing Rockfish Spawning and Habitat Grounds by 2026
Shinan County has already established a basic plan for the '2026 Rockfish Spawning and Habitat Creation (5 billion KRW)' project to participate in the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries' public offering, and is awaiting the announcement of the public offering results at the end of November.
If this project is selected, the recovery of Shinan's marine ecosystem is expected to gain further momentum.
Shinan County plans to continue various policies aimed at fisheries resource creation, increased income for fishermen, and tourism promotion, with the goal of a 'sustainable sea'.
