Moonwang Reservoir Ginkgo Tree Road: A Must-Visit Autumn Destination in Goesan, South Korea
Everyone has a travel destination that comes to mind in the fall.
For me, it's the Ginkgo Tree Road at Moonwang Reservoir in Goesan, Chungbuk, a famous spot for autumn foliage.
It's introduced as a hot place on social media every fall, so I visited with anticipation to see what it would be like.
Moonwang Reservoir is a quiet reservoir located in a small rural village, but in the fall, travelers from all over the country gather here.
This is because of the Ginkgo Tree Road, where ginkgo trees, dyed yellow, stand in long rows along the reservoir.
With a length of 2KM and about 300 trees, it's quite a large maple viewing area in Goesan, Chungbuk, where you can fully feel the autumn season.
The walking path is well-maintained and mostly flat, making it easy for people of all ages to walk.
If you're up for it, I recommend taking a course around the reservoir, or you can just walk along the Ginkgo Tree Road and be satisfied.
This place turns golden from the end of October to the beginning of November every year.
The wind, sunshine, and autumn sky create a harmony that relaxes the mind as you walk, appreciating the scenery.
The lively scene filled with travelers who came with their children, parents, and lovers is also one of the good things about this place.
The golden ginkgo trees reflected on the surface of the reservoir create an even richer color.
If you visit early in the morning, you can see the water fog rising from the reservoir, which is why many photographers visit, and because it is a reservoir where fishing is possible, many fishermen also visit.
Take a walk around the reservoir and feel the surrounding mountains, the fishermen fishing, the rice paddies spread out on the opposite side of the Ginkgo Tree Road, and the clear autumn sky.
The Yanggok Ginkgo Tree Festival, which has been held since 2014, also takes place during the peak foliage season.
This year's festival will be held until Sunday, November 16th, and will offer attractions and entertainment such as a food market, busking performances, and a photo exhibition of memories.
Parking space is also important as many people gather.
There is a large parking space around the reservoir, so you can park according to the guidance of the staff.
On weekends, there are many cars, so it is better to visit with a little more time.
At the local food market next to the Ginkgo Tree Road, they were selling local food and snacks from Goesan.
There are well-equipped convenience facilities such as rest areas and restrooms in front of the Salt Land building.
Although it is not large, there are agricultural products, snacks, and food from Goesan, so it is good for satisfying your hunger.
In particular, Goesan's sweet corn is excellent, so be sure to try it.
The photo exhibition of memories where you can appreciate the old scenery of Goesan and the appearance of the residents made me feel like I was traveling through time by turning a time machine.
The way people live has changed a lot, but the long ginkgo trees have been silently guarding that spot for over 40 years.
Moonwang Reservoir is at its peak foliage in early November.
The peak foliage season passes quickly as it is colorful.
If you visit when the leaves have fallen and the ground is covered with yellow leaves,
it creates a different atmosphere.
The yellow leaves are stacked in layers, giving the feeling of a yellow carpet laid out on the entire road, and you can feel a calm and slightly lonely emotion.
Moonwang Reservoir Ginkgo Tree Road, a famous maple viewing spot in Goesan, Chungbuk, will be at its prettiest this week.
In particular, this year, it is good to enjoy the Goesan Kimchi Festival, which will be held from November 6th to 9th at the Organic Expo Plaza.
