Jido-eup, Shinan-gun, has united to protect its pristine tidal flats.
Local community groups in Jido-eup, Shinan-gun, have undertaken significant activities to preserve the clean tidal flat environment.
The Jido-eup Village Head Council, Fishermen's Association, Women's Group Council, and Sports Association participated.
From the 19th to the 22nd, they conducted marine debris cleanup activities along approximately 6km of coastline, focusing on the Jeomam pier area.
This initiative aimed to collect marine debris that had washed ashore due to recent seasonal winds and changes in ocean currents.
Dividing the area into sections by village, they collected waste from both land and sea, resulting in the removal of a total of 12 tons of marine debris.
Kim Jang-soo, Chairman of the Fishermen's Association, stated, "Managing marine debris is crucial to maintaining Shinan's image of pristine tidal flats."
He added that a clean marine environment leads to the production of safe food.
Park Sang-gyu, Mayor of Jido-eup, expressed his gratitude to the participating organizations and residents despite their busy schedules.
He stated, "We will continue to promote environmental preservation activities in cooperation with residents and the administration."
Furthermore, Shinan-gun is promoting a tidal flat vegetation restoration project worth a total of 15 billion won to restore the tidal flat ecosystem in the northern region, including Jido-eup, and expand carbon sinks.
This activity is being recognized as a model case of practicing the preservation of pristine tidal flats through voluntary participation led by local residents.
