Hello!
This is Jangheung Travel~
Today, I'd like to introduce you to
a walking spot where nature and history harmonize:
<Jangheung Hweryeongjin Fortress>.
Located at 1009-3, Hweryeong-ri, Hoejin-myeon, Jangheung-gun,
Jangheung Hweryeongjin Fortress is an irregularly shaped fortress built using the mountain behind the village.
It was built in April of Seongjong 21 (1490) as a Manhojin Fortress
and served as a naval base to defeat Japanese pirates appearing in the South Sea.
Although the exact time of its initial establishment is unknown,
according to the "Sejong Sillok Jiriji," the base was established in the early Joseon Dynasty.
During times of war, it was used as a gathering place for the navy, and in peacetime,
it served as a supply base for storing military provisions and equipment.
When you enter Hweryeongjin Fortress Park, the first thing that catches your eye
is the various sculptures made by elaborately trimming stones.
Before going up, you will see a Panokseon sculpture symbolizing the Battle of Myeongnyang, where Admiral Yi Sun-sin led the victory with 12 ships, and
the 'Hweryeong Sungsang' sculpture, which simplifies the human form and expresses it as supporting a large circle.
This sculpture commemorates the spirit of the ancestors who fought against fierce foreign invasions,
and contains the meaning of continuing that spirit to develop and unite the people of Jangheung,
and further enhance their pride.
On the large wall, there is an explanation of Hweryeongjin Fortress
and the Battle of Myeongnyang, so
it is good to read it slowly and look around.
After taking a look around,
it is also great to sit in the pavilion and take a break while enjoying the cool scenery.
A place where Admiral Yi Sun-sin's footsteps remain in a quiet landscape,
<Jangheung Hweryeongjin Fortress>
If you walk up quietly,
you can feel the memories of old strategies and victories permeating nature.Visit once and experience the flow of time yourself~
