International Woodblock Print Exhibition: NOW in NATURE & HISTORY

The Jincheon County Seonggeo Print Art Museum, a prominent cultural and artistic space in Jincheon, Chungbuk, is hosting its first ambitious international exhibition since its opening. The 'Korea-China-Japan International Woodblock Print Exhibition: NOW in NATURE & HISTORY' provides a rare opportunity to view the contemporary printmaking trends of the three East Asian countries at a glance.
The exhibition runs from March 12, 2026 (Thursday) to June 18, 2026 (Thursday) at the exhibition hall of the Jincheon County Seonggeo Print Art Museum and the Juchuljang Traditional Crafts Education Center. Please note that the museum is closed on Mondays, and visiting hours are from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
This exhibition can be seen as a meeting of the essence of East Asian woodblock prints. Korea, China, and Japan share the history of the world’s oldest woodblock printing techniques and have maintained unique printmaking traditions. The exhibition features over 110 works by 21 representative woodblock artists from each country.
Notably, the exhibition showcases a diverse spectrum of modern printmaking under the two major themes of 'NATURE' and 'HISTORY.' Visitors can encounter works infused with the spirit of masters such as Korean printmaker Kim Jun-kwon, Japanese artist Kobayashi Keisei, and Chinese artist Zhen Qi. Additionally, around ten prints from North Korea, which are not easily accessible, are displayed, adding depth to the Asian printmaking art.
As the only public art museum specializing in prints in Korea, the quality of the exhibition is exceptionally high. While one might think of printmaking as simple 'printing,' the works in this exhibition demonstrate the infinite possibilities of print art, from the aesthetics of delicate knife edges to grand masterpieces.
The exhibition includes traditional black-and-white prints as well as vibrant colored prints, showcasing the broad spectrum of printmaking techniques.
A large print work that stretches across the exhibition hall floor overwhelms viewers visually, proving that printmaking is not just confined to small artworks on paper but possesses an energy that encompasses the entire space.
The numerous portrait prints filling the walls convey the weighty narratives of the people who lived through different eras, aligning with the exhibition theme of 'HISTORY.'
This exhibition expands not only within the Seonggeo Print Art Museum but also into the adjacent Juchuljang Traditional Crafts Education Center. Visitors can enjoy modern print artworks at the museum while experiencing a blend of tradition and modernity at the education center, doubling the enjoyment of their visit. Strolling between the two venues, visitors can soak in the fresh air of Jincheon and gather artistic inspiration.
If visiting with children, it’s a great idea to walk the trails around the museum after viewing the exhibition or to connect the visit with another local attraction, the 'Bell Museum.' The ample parking and beautiful surroundings make it an excellent choice for family outings or dates. Experience the artistic dialogue of Korea, China, and Japan in Jincheon's nature, and recharge your cultural senses this weekend at the Seonggeo Print Art Museum.
