Hiking Recommendation in Jinju: Malti Hill - Seonhak Mountain Trekking Course

Jinju Hiking Recommendation: Malti Hill
Seonhak Mountain Trekking Course
If someone asks which season is the best to travel in Korea, with its four distinct seasons, I would say without hesitation, 'Autumn.' One way to fully experience autumn is through hiking. I visited Seonhak Mountain for a trekking course that captures the essence of autumn in Jinju. There are several starting points for the Seonhak Mountain trek, but I started from the summit of Malti Hill.
This striking golden pedestrian bridge is the Bonghwang Bridge, a bridge connecting Seonhak Mountain and Bibong Mountain, and also a symbol of Seonhak Mountain. I plan to cross this Bonghwang Bridge and climb up to the Seonhak Mountain Observatory.
Seonhak Mountain is a low mountain with a height of 135.5m, located in the city center, and many people visit it for walks, forest bathing, and hiking. Recently, with the popularity of barefoot walking, it seems that more people are visiting the mountain. The lighting installed from the beginning of the trail helps to prevent accidents during trekking, even in seasons when the sun sets early.
After talking and walking for about 10 minutes, I arrived at Bonghwang Bridge. I will cross this bridge to get to the Seonhak Mountain Observatory. Since it's still early autumn, there are mosquitoes, so it's good to prepare mosquito repellent or mosquito spray in advance.
The ground was muddy after the rain, but I walked diligently, following the footprints of those who had gone before. This course, which is also part of the Jinju Ena-gil Trail, allows you to encounter various tree species such as bamboo and ginkgo trees.
While looking at the ground, it was fun to find mushrooms and wildflowers blooming among the trees. It was nice to see colorful flowers among the green trees.
Just when I thought I had walked a little, there was a wooden chair, so I decided to take a break and drink some water. It was a cloudy day, but it was quite cool with the breeze. Before I knew it, I had reached the middle of the mountain. People I met along the way told me, 'This way has many puddles, so it's better to go on the path next to it,' which made it easier for me to go. Isn't it the charm of trekking that you can feel this kind of heartwarming kindness?
I lowered my waist and took pictures of the natural wooden stairs and flowers.
The mountain itself is only 135m high, but walking along the mountain path, it was a total of 1.5km, and when there was about 100m left, I was happy to think, 'I'm almost there!'
It took about 1 hour and 30 minutes round trip with a young child.
When I climbed to the Seonhak Mountain Observatory, I could see the Jinju Namgang Yudeung Festival in full swing. The sound of songs from the festival site could be heard all the way to the observatory, and the colorful lanterns were really pretty even during the day.
Next to it, there is a Seonhak Mountain Observatory viewing panel where you can see the entire area of Jinju in the east, west, south, and north. Looking east, you can see Wolah Mountain, south, Gajah Mountain, and west, Jinjuseong Fortress and Bibong Mountain. I could see why it was called the mountain where immortals and cranes play.
Seeing the large trees and blue sky, I felt all my worries wash away. I realized that this is why people go trekking.
Recently, a unmanned cafe has opened at the Seonhak Mountain Observatory, so you can conveniently buy coffee or drinks. Please keep that in mind.
Enjoy the early autumn of Jinju at Seonhak Mountain, which is great for walking alone, as a couple, or with children.
