Hidden Gem with a Sea View: Seokmun Mountain Pine Forest Trail

Seokmun Mountain, located at the edge of Wae-mok Village in Dangjin, offers stunning views of the sea where the sun rises and sets.
Regardless of when you visit, the blue waters of the West Sea are always gently rippling, with the sandy beach expanding and contracting with the tides.
The coastline starting from Wae-mok Ferry Terminal leads to a quiet beach where several fishing boats are anchored, making for a pleasant 30-minute stroll along the long, wide sandy shore.
For a more unique experience of the sea, consider hiking up Seokmun Mountain. This low hill faces the coastline of Wae-mok Village Beach.
The trail has two starting points: one from a spacious area opposite the Wae-mok Auto Camping Site at the beach entrance, and the other from in front of the Maritime Police Station, located midway along the beach.
Typically, hikers ascend from the parking area towards the Maritime Police Station. The path leads up along a steep forest road, with the option to climb steps from an empty lot at the midway point.
At about 80 meters above sea level, the summit is just a ten-minute hike away, but the ridge of dense pine trees extends quite far, and walking the entire ridge takes over 30 minutes, allowing you to truly feel the mountain energy.
The end of the forest road leads directly to the summit of Seokmun Mountain, which features a spacious flat area covered in crushed stone. To the north, a wide plain of Gyo-ro-ri unfolds.
The summit is also a hidden spot for car camping, accommodating three to four teams. However, caution is advised while driving on the steep road, and fire safety is essential in dry conditions.
At the summit, the expansive plain and the beautiful blue sea create a breathtaking view. The contrast between the colorless fields, which change with the seasons, and the beautiful sea all year round is remarkable.
The view from Seokmun Mountain overlooks Wae-mok Beach, where the white coastline curves as the tide comes in, gradually narrowing the once-wide sandy beach.
Time spent on Seokmun Mountain becomes even more special as you witness the morning and evening moments of Wae-mok Village, where I have enjoyed sunrises in front of the sea. Next time, I will also experience the sunrise from Seokmun Mountain.
With a brief hike of about ten minutes and well-maintained forest paths, visiting in the early morning or late afternoon is quite manageable.
After enjoying the beautiful coastal scenery, I descend towards the Maritime Police Station, passing through a leafless forest area after the pine grove near the summit.
Seokmun Mountain offers a ridge that continues along the pine forest, providing an open view at the top. As spring begins, the changing agricultural landscapes will also be beautiful.
If you wish to enjoy the sea of Wae-mok Village in a special way, consider hiking up Seokmun Mountain for a light 30-minute trek.
