As the cold wind blows, it's the perfect season for warm and comforting food.

Located at 652-1 Dongnam-ri, Buyeo-eup, Buyeo-gun, Chungnam, Gungnam Kalguksu is a local favorite.

With the arrival of the chilly weather, I found myself craving a bowl of hot noodles. A friend recommended a great kalguksu place in Buyeo, so I decided to visit.

The restaurant, Gungnam Kalguksu, is situated near Buyeo's Gungnamji Pond.

My friend mentioned that if I had come a few days earlier, we could have enjoyed the Chrysanthemum Festival together. I realized I had visited Buyeo during the festival period but didn't know about it, highlighting the importance of staying informed.

The menu is displayed on the outer wall near the entrance, allowing you to check it before entering. They offer kalguksu and dumplings as staples, along with seasonal dishes like spicy radish noodles, cold radish noodles, soybean noodles, and rice cake soup.

Walking through the courtyard, you enter the building. The operating hours are divided into lunch (11:00 AM - 3:00 PM) and dinner (5:30 PM - 7:30 PM). It's recommended to call ahead, especially for Saturday evenings and Sundays, as they may be closed.

Gungnam Kalguksu is recognized as a model restaurant and a place with fair prices in Buyeo-gun. This is a source of pride for the restaurant and a sign of trust for customers.

The interior is clean and well-maintained. Although there weren't many customers during my visit (after lunch hours), the space, retaining the structure of an old house, felt special. The modern space incorporated elements of the traditional home.

The tables are comfortable, offering a sit-down dining experience. The menu and origin of ingredients are displayed. I had planned to order both spicy noodles and kalguksu to share, but the summer seasonal menu was no longer available.

The kalguksu is reasonably priced at 8,000 won, with the option to upsize for an additional 1,000 won. Takeout is also available. In times of rising prices, it's great to find a place where you can enjoy a meal for 8,000 won.

While waiting for the food, I admired the interior, particularly the old doors used as window decorations. The torn traditional paper windows blended well with the modern decor, evoking memories of the past.

The rafters are exposed on the ceiling. These structural members seem to be incorporated into the restaurant's design, preserving the original framework of the house.

Soon, the kalguksu and dumplings arrived, and the table was set. The kalguksu was served in a large bowl with toppings.

The basic side dishes included fresh kimchi and radish salad. The vibrant red color of the kimchi was appetizing.

I believe a kalguksu restaurant should have delicious kimchi, and this place did not disappoint. I enjoyed it so much that I went back for seconds (twice!) at the self-service corner.

The main dish, kalguksu, features a anchovy-based broth, topped with egg garnish and seaweed.

The rich anchovy broth warmed me from the inside out. Kalguksu is definitely the best choice for a cold day.

The soft noodles were easy to eat, and the portion size was generous. The broth was so delicious that I ate a lot of it, leaving me feeling full and unable to finish all the noodles.

If two women with smaller appetites visit, sharing a large portion of kalguksu and an order of dumplings would be a good option.

An order of dumplings includes three meat dumplings and three kimchi dumplings. If you prefer only meat or kimchi dumplings, you can specify when ordering.

My friend prefers meat dumplings, and I like kimchi dumplings, so we happily shared them. They were a great accompaniment to the kalguksu.

The dumpling wrappers were just right, and the taste was pleasant.

The building exuded a vintage charm, yet the tables were equipped with QR code ordering systems, creating a blend of the modern and the past.

Gungnam Kalguksu in Buyeo is a great place to enjoy a hearty meal on a cold day, experiencing the ambiance of an old house. It was a delightful dining experience.
