Free Hepatitis C Screening for Residents of Sinan-gun

Sinan-gun is promoting free hepatitis C screenings for residents of Bigum-myeon to prevent and detect the disease early.
This initiative is a collaborative effort involving Jeollanam-do, the Infectious Disease Control Support Team, Sinan-gun Health Center, the Honam Disease Response Center, and cancer centers in Gwangju and Jeollanam-do.
The goal is to provide systematic management that connects hepatitis C screening with treatment.
Hepatitis C has no preventive vaccine and often presents with few symptoms, leading to late detection. However, recent developments in treatment allow for over 95% cure rates.
To safeguard residents' health through early diagnosis, Sinan-gun has established this program.
Sinan-gun will conduct antibody tests for 1,500 residents aged 20 and older.
Those who test positive will receive further examinations and treatment support in collaboration with Mokpo Korean Hospital.
Additionally, confirmed cases with an income level below 130% of the median will receive support for outpatient treatment costs and up to 3.3 million won for their share of treatment medication expenses.
From 2023 to 2025, Sinan-gun will conduct antibody tests for a total of 3,484 individuals across five towns and 62 villages, successfully identifying and supporting treatment for six cases.
Sinan-gun will continue to prioritize the prevention and early detection of infectious diseases to protect the health of its citizens.
Early detection can lead to a full recovery, so we encourage active participation from all residents.
