Free Alzheimer's Risk Blood Tests for Seniors in Dangjin

What do you think is the most painful disease humanity suffers from?
Personally, I believe that among various diseases, two that have no known cure stand out: cancer and dementia.
Many people are currently suffering from these illnesses.
Dementia, in particular, is terrifying because it erases not only memories of oneself but also memories of family.
Today, I want to introduce a welfare initiative in Dangjin City aimed at senior citizens.
Let's take a look at what this news is about.
The policy I want to introduce today is the "Free Alzheimer's Risk Blood Test Support" initiative.
Dangjin City will provide free Alzheimer's risk blood tests for residents aged 60 and older starting in 2026.
This initiative will check for the accumulation of beta-amyloid in the blood to predict the risk of developing Alzheimer's disease early.
Dangjin City is noted as the first local government in the nation to have a system in place to conduct these tests independently.
To promote early detection and prevention of dementia, a pilot program began in 2024, with full implementation starting in 2025. So far, over 3,000 citizens have participated in the program.
In 2026, the program will continue to be offered free of charge to residents aged 60 and older throughout the year.
Those who pass a cognitive screening test will be eligible for the blood test, which is available once in a lifetime per individual.
Citizens wishing to take the test should bring their identification and a resident registration certificate, and make a reservation by phone before visiting the Dangjin Health Center.
Advance reservations are essential for smooth testing, and there is already high demand, with bookings filled until April 2026.
I visited two health centers in Dangjin and was pleased to see that tests are conducted in accessible community health centers rather than large hospitals.
This initiative to assess dementia risk through blood tests at the local government level is the first of its kind in the country.
The test checks for the risk of dementia but does not diagnose dementia itself, so there is no need to worry excessively before taking the test.
It can serve as a guideline for how to live moving forward based on the results.
The testing support will be available from January 12, 2026, to November 19, 2026.
If your parents fall within the eligible age group, please take them to get tested!
