Exploring Wonsan Dae Banjum: A Traditional Dining Experience in Jincheon

During the winter break, I decided to take my kids out for lunch. They expressed a craving for sweet and sour pork, so we headed to Wonsan Dae Banjum, located in Jincheon-eup. This restaurant is a well-established Chinese eatery in Jincheon, situated on the road leading from the Jincheon Administrative Welfare Center towards Hwarang Park. Since my first visit to Jincheon, I have frequently dined here, making it feel like a local favorite.
Wonsan Dae Banjum is recognized as a model restaurant in Jincheon County, which means it has been evaluated for hygiene, service, and facilities. The presence of the 'Model Restaurant' sign indicates a clean and organized atmosphere, making it a reliable choice for family dining.
Upon arrival, the first thing that catches your eye is the sign indicating that it is a model restaurant. The parking area in front can accommodate about 5-6 cars, but it might get crowded during peak lunch hours. A tip for visitors: from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM on weekdays, parking enforcement is temporarily relaxed, but be aware that this does not apply to all areas.
As you enter, the dining area is quite spacious, and there is a room available for groups, making it suitable for family gatherings or company dinners.
The menu is divided into two main sections: meals and dishes. The meal section includes various noodle and rice options such as Jajangmyeon, Jjamppong, and Fried Rice. The dish section offers a variety of Chinese dishes, including Sweet and Sour Pork, Spicy Fried Chicken, and more. Given the current prices, the 7,000 won for Jajangmyeon is quite reasonable. Personally, I enjoy the Japchae Rice and Spicy Jjamppong, but on this occasion, I ordered Sweet and Sour Pork and Jajangmyeon with my kids.
The service was impressively quick and friendly. Our side dishes and plates were set up almost instantly, and the staff even provided scissors for the kids, which was a thoughtful touch. This level of service makes it a welcoming place for busy professionals and families alike.
The food arrived faster than expected, and the Sweet and Sour Pork looked absolutely delicious, glistening with sauce. It was crispy even though it was served with the sauce on top, and the flavor reminded me of the traditional 'old-style' Sweet and Sour Pork I enjoyed as a child. The Jajangmyeon had a simple yet satisfying appearance.
My kids, who claimed they weren't hungry after a late breakfast, quickly changed their minds after the first bite, enjoying the unique texture of the thicker noodles compared to other places. I personally like my Jajangmyeon spicy, so I added a generous amount of chili powder, enhancing the sweet sauce's flavor. The combination of Jajangmyeon and Sweet and Sour Pork made for a thoroughly satisfying meal.
Wonsan Dae Banjum also accepts local currency payments, allowing for a 10% discount, which eases the burden of dining out. With its spacious environment, quick and friendly service, and delicious food, Wonsan Dae Banjum is highly recommended for lunch, family outings, or corporate gatherings.
