Exploring the Tranquil Ecosystem of Dangsanjeosuji Reservoir

As spring approaches, our hearts naturally escape the noise of the city and wander into the vibrant embrace of nature.
Following the gentle whispers of spring carried by the warm breeze, I visited the Dangsanjeosuji Reservoir Ecological Trail, a serene healing spot in Dangjin, South Chungcheong Province.
This place transcends a mere reservoir; it serves as a precious space where nature and humanity learn to coexist at their own pace.
Upon arrival, I was greeted by the soft sounds of spring awakening, including the calls of migratory birds.
Startled by my presence, the birds took flight, momentarily surprising me.
The first sensation I felt at Dangsanjeosuji Reservoir was the 'presence of life.'
Frogs, just waking from their winter slumber, must have carefully laid their eggs, which have likely transformed into tadpoles by now.
On a quiet weekday afternoon, I lingered in the stillness, even the wind seemed to hold its breath.
If you listen closely, you can hear the gentle sounds of water and the rustling breeze, along with the subtle movements of life as the mountains and fields stretch awake.
The changes in nature during this time feel clearer and more wondrous than ever.
The charm of Dangsanjeosuji Reservoir lies in its wooden deck paths that line the water's edge.
Walking along the extended deck path gives a peculiar sense of liberation, as if walking lightly upon the water.
This area also serves as a resting place for migratory birds.
As I walked slowly and observed the surface of the water, I felt a part of nature itself.
The trail is not rugged, making it perfect for everyone, regardless of age, to enjoy the seasonal ambiance comfortably.
Beyond a simple walking path, this place is an excellent ecological learning space.
Through the activities of the 'Nonbaemi Citizen School,' nearby elementary school children engage in ecological activities here, experiencing and learning the values of biodiversity and coexistence.
With well-organized observation paths, decks, outdoor classrooms, and resting areas, it is an ideal destination for families with children.
Notably, the informative signs about aquatic plants scattered throughout the area are worth paying attention to.
The process of discovering the names of the plants we often overlook and understanding how they thrive both in and around the water is quite an enjoyable adventure.
Experiencing nature firsthand, rather than just learning about it, will be the greatest gift for children.
Dangsanjeosuji Reservoir is a sanctuary for the endangered golden frog.
This place holds special significance as it is the habitat for the endangered species, the golden frog.
Recognizable by its distinct golden stripes along its sides, this native species interestingly lacks vocal sacs in both males and females.
Remembering that this space is preserved to allow these small lives to thrive makes each step feel more cautious and precious.
We must not forget that this beautiful landscape we enjoy is a vital habitat for the golden frog.
Unfortunately, on the day I visited, I could not observe any frog eggs or tadpoles; I’m not sure if it was too early in the season.
Visiting during a warmer period when frogs are more active might allow encounters with golden frogs, brown frogs, toads, and lizards.
Dangsanjeosuji Reservoir is designated as an ecological park due to its unique ecological value.
It is not just a place of beautiful scenery but a precious home for lives we must protect.
Alongside the golden frog, various protected species, including the vibrant dragonfly and the rain's herald, the Korean brown frog, coexist harmoniously here.
Recognized for its ecological value, Dangsanjeosuji Reservoir has been designated by the Ministry of Environment as a 'facility for conservation and use of natural environments' where preservation and utilization achieve perfect harmony.
Taking a moment to pause and sit by the water, I reflected on the scenery without doing anything at all.
Letting go of the fast-paced clock of everyday life, I surrendered my heart to the slow rhythm of nature.
As my cluttered mind cleared and my heart calmed, I realized that a stroll around the ecological learning center and the waterfront trail does not take long.
However, the brief moments filled with the vibrancy of spring and the whispers of new sprouts provide a significant energy to endure daily life.
This weekend, why not enjoy a warm spring picnic at the Dangsanjeosuji Reservoir Ecological Trail, where nature and humanity harmoniously blend?
It will be a meaningful time to create memories in front of the iconic crane sculpture while experiencing the preciousness of nature we need to protect.
