As the sweltering heat of midsummer approaches, many seek cool retreats. While heading to the beach is a popular choice, a special forest trail that offers the natural coolness of the outdoors is gaining attention, providing an escape from the city’s air conditioning.

This spot, rich in history dating back to the Joseon Dynasty and surrounded by lush nature, is perfect for a light weekend outing with family or a partner, especially since there is no entrance fee.

With zero entrance and parking fees, this budget-friendly getaway is hard to resist. Damyang Gwanbangjerim boasts remarkable value, having been designated a natural monument, yet it remains completely free to visit. Not only is there no entrance fee, but nearby public parking spaces also come without additional costs, making it easy for travelers.

The most accessible area is the Damyang Gwanbangjerim parking lot. During weekends or holidays when visitors flock, it’s advisable to use alternative parking options at the Damyang Sports Complex or in front of the Damvit Art Warehouse to avoid congestion. The ample parking infrastructure makes it very convenient to visit by car.

Home to 420 deciduous trees aged between 300 and 400 years, this area creates an extraordinary green tunnel. The dirt walking path along the embankment stretches 1.2 km, with densely packed trees forming a massive canopy overhead. The air produced by these ancient trees, including Zelkova, Metasequoia, and other large species, is refreshingly cool, making visitors forget the outside heat.

The thick leaves block sunlight effectively, keeping the temperature noticeably lower even during midday. Resting on benches or pavilions scattered throughout the area while enjoying the river breeze can relieve accumulated stress.

While walking the forest path along the embankment is beautiful, descending to the Yeongsan River bank reveals another charm. The long rows of Metasequoia trees by the riverside offer a refreshing stroll with open views.

The riverside path is relatively less crowded than the embankment, making it an ideal spot for quiet reflection. Stairs allow easy access between the upper and lower paths, ensuring a diverse and engaging trekking experience.
