Hello.

As the daytime temperatures rise, hinting at early summer, I recently embarked on a trip to Chungju, where I could enjoy nature and rejuvenate my body.

This time, I will introduce two places: A crocodile peak offering breathtaking views of Chungju Lake and a free foot bath experience at Suanbo, perfect for relaxing after a hike.

This well-rounded itinerary allowed me to sweat healthily while enjoying the cool view of Chungju Lake and end the day by soaking my feet in warm hot spring water.

With the spring fire prevention period ending on May 15, hiking at Crocodile Peak is now officially available.

Now is the perfect time for a trip to Chungju. Let me share my experience of a day painted in fresh green.

01. Encountering the Scenic Beauty of Chungju Lake at Crocodile Peak

Crocodile Peak Hiking Course Information

● Address: 927 Wolak-ro, Salmi-myeon, Chungju, Chungcheongbuk-do

● Facilities: Free parking, restrooms (available at the cafe), information map of Woraksan National Park

● Hiking Distance: Round trip 1.8 km (900m one way to the viewpoint)

● Duration: Approximately 1 to 1.5 hours (varies by individual)

● Difficulty: ★★☆☆☆ (easy)

After searching the address in the navigation, you will find free parking available upon arrival.

After parking, stretch your body and cross the light green crocodile-shaped pedestrian bridge at the entrance to officially start your hike.

Since the sun is quite strong during the day, I recommend hiking early in the morning if possible.

I started my hike at 8 AM, allowing me to enjoy a leisurely walk along the quiet forest path.

Though the hiking distance isn't long, the initial steepness makes comfortable hiking shoes essential.

Bring a bottle of water to stay hydrated as you climb, as it can get hot.

The trail is well-maintained, but some sections are narrow, so be considerate of others when passing.

As it was a weekday morning, there weren't many hikers, allowing me to fully appreciate the sounds of the forest.

The rustling leaves, clear bird songs, and the air brushing through the trees created a soothing white noise, comforting my mind.

Walking slowly, I suddenly thought, how lovely the birds' chirping is!

I truly felt I had stepped away from my familiar routine into nature.

Be cautious of exposed tree roots along the trail to avoid tripping.

As I ascended gradually under the refreshing shade of trees, I reached a resting area with benches.

A brief rest time!

As I gained altitude, Chungju Lake began to come into view.

The name Crocodile Peak comes from the ridge extending over Chungju Lake, resembling crocodiles swimming in the water.

It was once an unofficial trail in a wildlife protection area but was officially opened in September 2024 after safety facilities and trail maintenance.

Now, anyone can safely enjoy this stunning scenery.

Don't miss the photo spot before reaching the summit viewpoint!

Here, you can take pictures that make you feel like you're standing amidst crocodiles on Chungju Lake.

There are safety ropes installed, so please take photos outside the ropes.

The hiking sections are generally steep, so I skipped photos of the ascent.

Though the climb was tough enough to make me sweat, the view at the top compensated for all the effort.

The breathtaking view of Chungju Lake and the green ridges at the Crocodile Peak viewpoint made it clear why it's a must-visit destination.

It offers different charms in every season and time of day, ensuring a fresh experience each visit.

If you're planning a trip to Chungbuk, I highly recommend climbing to witness this beautiful landscape firsthand.

You'll create unforgettable memories with amazing photos.

02. Suanbo Free Foot Bath Experience to Relieve Fatigue After Hiking Crocodile Peak

Suanbo Hot Spring Foot Bath Information

● Address: 35 Jujeongsan-ro, Suanbo-myeon, Chungju, Chungcheongbuk-do

● Fee: Free foot bath experience, free parking, free Wi-Fi zone

● Operating Hours: 12 PM - 8 PM until November

● Closed: Every Monday (open on holidays and substitute holidays)

● Preparation: Umbrella, cool water, personal foot towel

After hiking Crocodile Peak, I visited the Suanbo Hot Spring Free Foot Bath when my leg muscles started to feel tired.

This place was the perfect way to conclude my Chungju trip.

It has various foot bath facilities, including mist, acupressure, mountain, massage, and couple foot baths, allowing you to choose based on your preference.

As soon as I soaked my feet in the warm hot spring water, I felt the fatigue from my hike naturally melt away.

The warmth spreading from my toes made my body feel lighter, allowing me to comfortably wrap up my journey.

To use the foot bath, wash your feet at the foot washing station before moving to the foot bath area.

As I soaked my feet, I couldn't help but exclaim in delight.

Initially, it felt hot, but after a few minutes, my body adjusted, and it became pleasantly refreshing.

After about 15 minutes of soaking, the tension in my muscles eased, and I felt relaxed.

The warmth starting from my feet spread throughout my body, slowly melting away the day's fatigue.

If you're planning to visit during the day, I recommend bringing an umbrella.

I found it quite useful on sunny days.

Even if you don't have a towel, there's no need to worry. Let it dry in the natural breeze, and you can use it comfortably.

This was how I wrapped up my day in Chungju.

This trip, combining exercise and healing, was truly satisfying.

From Crocodile Peak, I captured the majestic nature of Chungju Lake, and I ended with a relaxing foot bath at Suanbo, making it a perfect itinerary.

Chungju has many other beautiful walking paths.

From the scenic Jongdaengi Trail along Chungju Lake to the beautiful views along the Namhan River, the serene Haneuljae Trail, and the Jungwon Cultural Trail where you can experience history and nature together.

If you want to feel a true rest while moving your body in nature, consider heading to Chungju this weekend.

The refreshing scenery of Chungju Lake and the warm embrace of Suanbo hot springs will provide special healing for your tired body and mind.
