Exploring the Local Food Market at Sapgyoho Lake
During my visit to the Sapgyoho Lake tourist area in Dangjin, I stumbled upon the Shinpyeong Agricultural Cooperative Local Food Happiness Market.
One of the highlights of traveling is discovering local specialties that you can only find in the region.
This market offers a variety of fresh produce and processed foods produced in Dangjin, making it a perfect stop on my travel itinerary.

Located directly across from the Sapgyocheon Intercity Bus Terminal, it’s easily accessible for travelers on foot.
It's also close to the entrance of the Sapgyoho tourist area, making it a convenient stop to wrap up your trip.
The Local Food Happiness Market is set up inside the Hanaro Mart.
It sells agricultural products and processed foods from Dangjin, and what I appreciated the most was that each product clearly displays the producer's name and production information.
Knowing that the products come from cooperative members who farm the land gives me confidence in their quality.
One of the standout products was the Haenaru rice, a representative specialty of Dangjin, available in 10kg and 20kg bags.
If you're traveling by car, buying a sack would be a great idea.
I was particularly drawn to the vacuum-sealed small packages of Haenaru rice, which would make perfect souvenirs or gifts for parents.
The central display featured a variety of grains, including glutinous rice, barley, oats, and various beans, all sourced from Dangjin.
Products are sold in small packages, allowing you to buy just what you need, and knowing they are 100% domestic makes them even more trustworthy.
I also found colorful rice varieties, including turmeric rice and red rice, beautifully displayed in PET bottles. They looked so appealing that I thought they’d make great gifts.
There was an impressive selection of dried vegetables, including dried radish greens and mushrooms, with the shiitake mushrooms even certified by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs for GAP.
One of the most interesting finds was the Haenaru seaweed with baby anchovies, which I bought out of curiosity and was pleasantly surprised by its taste.
I’m now eager to attend the Janggo Port Baby Anchovy Festival next time.
The market also featured traditional fermented products like yellow croaker soy sauce and yellow croaker doenjang, which I’m excited to try at home.
The selection of healthy snacks was diverse, including ginger cookies and brown rice snacks, showcasing the healthy foods produced in Dangjin.
