Exploring the Legacy of Songgang Jeongcheol in Jincheon

Today, I would like to introduce Jeongsonggangsa and the Songgang Literary Museum, where you can experience the footprints of Songgang Jeongcheol, a representative literary figure of the Joseon Dynasty, in Jincheon, Chungbuk. This location offers a quiet opportunity to appreciate history and literature during your travels in Jincheon. The Songgang Literary Museum was newly established in November last year, making it a recommended indoor travel destination in Jincheon.
The parking lot at Jeongsonggangsa is quite convenient, with additional parking available nearby. It takes about 10 minutes by car from the Jincheon County Office, and its proximity to Cheongju makes it a great spot for nearby trips.
When I visited previously, the area that was once a parking lot has now transformed into the Songgang Cultural Creation Village and the Songgang Literary Museum, enriching the experience with more attractions.
The newly established Songgang Literary Museum is impressively large and well-organized, making me eager to explore its interior.
The museum offers guided tours three times a day, so if you're interested in learning more or visiting with children, be sure to take note of the schedule.
The exhibition halls are located on the first and basement levels, providing an in-depth introduction to the life and literature of Songgang Jeongcheol.
The permanent exhibition hall focuses on the life and literary world of Songgang Jeongcheol. In the beginning, there is a section that introduces his life and activities, allowing visitors to explore his growth chronologically.
Inside, there is a cozy space by the sunny windows where you can sit, take a break, or read a book, creating a warm atmosphere.
Especially noteworthy is the variety of interactive experiences that help visitors, including children, easily understand the significance of Songgang Jeongcheol's life, works, and the significance of Joseon-era lyric poetry. By pressing buttons, you can listen to the lyrics of his representative works such as Seongsanbyeolgok, Gwandongbyeolgok, Samiin-gok, and Sokmiin-gok.
Additionally, placing a book containing the 16 Confucian virtues and principles taught in Hunminjeongeum on an RFID reader triggers related videos for viewing.
One of the most impressive and intriguing aspects was the media art that expressed the representative works and life of Songgang Jeongcheol. The video format made it easier and more enjoyable to grasp the essence of his works.
Exiting the permanent exhibition hall, you will find Cafe Songgang on the first floor, which features large windows, making it an inviting place to take a break.
Descending to the basement level, you will find the Archive Lounge of the planned exhibition hall, which is neatly arranged for reading and relaxation.
After exploring the Songgang Literary Museum, I stepped outside to visit Jeongsonggangsa. The path to Jeongsonggangsa is lined with ancient protective trees, creating a solemn yet peaceful atmosphere typical of shrines.
As you ascend, you will come across the monument to Jeongcheol and the Hongsalmun gate. Continuing past the gate will lead you to Jeongsonggangsa. From here, you can also access the Songgang tomb and hiking trails on Hwanhisan Mountain.
Following the stairs to the highest point, you will arrive at Jeongsonggangsa, where the spirit tablet of Songgang Jeongcheol is enshrined. This shrine was established in the late Joseon period and is currently designated as a cultural property in Chungcheongbuk-do, managed with care. There is also a guestbook available at the entrance.
The view from Jeongsonggangsa is breathtaking, as the elevation offers a stunning landscape. Gazing at the unobstructed view brings a sense of healing and tranquility.
On the way down, I spotted the blossoming Cornelian cherry flowers, signaling the arrival of spring. Jincheon Jeongsonggangsa is an excellent place to walk in the footsteps of the representative Joseon literary figure, Songgang Jeongcheol. The newly established Songgang Literary Museum offers a variety of attractions, experiences, and a space for relaxation and healing, making it worth a visit.
