Dangjin City, with its rich history, is home to a variety of markets. Among them, my favorite is the Hapdeok Traditional Market, which I visit frequently.

Today, I would like to introduce you to the winter scenery, features, and history of the historic Hapdeok Traditional Market.

The market is located on Bugnae 2-gil in Hapdeok-eup, Dangjin City. With its long history, it attracts many visitors and hosts numerous shops.

During my visit on a weekend morning, there weren’t many citizens around yet, but more cars were gradually arriving.

The Hapdeok Traditional Market also has a public parking space, which allows for more convenient parking even on busy weekends.

This market has served as a center for the local economy and a hub of community life for over a century.

Originally known as the 'Bugnae Market', it began to take shape in the early 1900s and served as a secret meeting place for Catholic believers during the persecution of Christians.

It was officially opened in 1961 and underwent modernization in 2010 to become the clean, arcade-style market we see today.

One of the market's most notable features is the 'Hanwoo Specialty Street'. Here, you can find butcher shops and restaurants offering high-quality Hanwoo beef at affordable prices, making it an excellent spot for enjoying dishes like raw beef and grilled meat.

Under the arcade, there are various shops including fruit and vegetable stores. The large arcade provides comfort and convenience, allowing visitors to explore the market regardless of the weather.

As indicated in the market guide, there are numerous shops specializing in Hanwoo beef. Although many shops had not yet opened in the morning, the variety of options available allows for easy comparison.

I used to think that to enjoy affordable Hanwoo, I would have to travel to Gangwon Province. However, discovering this Hanwoo specialty street means I don't need to go far.

If you're a fan of Hanwoo, I highly recommend visiting the Hapdeok Traditional Market!
