Exploring the Eco Park of Geogeum Island

Online Community
Located at the foot of Jeonnam Goheung's Geogeumdo, Geogeum Ecological Forest preserves the pristine ecosystem of subtropical forests. Walking along the forest paths, visitors can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Dadohae, making it a perfect spot to relieve stress.
Even in February, at the end of winter, the trees proudly display their green leaves, providing a vibrant landscape that is anything but desolate.
Canopy Highway
At the starting point of the forest trail, there is a wooden deck path known as the 'Canopy Highway,' designed at the height of the tree tops. The path is flat with little incline, allowing for a comfortable walk in lightweight sneakers without the need for climbing gear.
This unique experience lets visitors observe the branches and leaves of trees up close, which were previously only viewable from the ground. Walking along the deck road gives a sensation of floating above the forest.
Red Suspension Bridge
As you continue along the trail, you will encounter a massive red suspension bridge connecting the valleys. Standing in the middle of the bridge provides a thrilling view of the deep valley below, along with a refreshing breeze.
This bridge is a landmark of the Geogeum Ecological Forest, making it an excellent spot for impressive photos against the backdrop of the forest and sky.
The view from the bridge allows for a comprehensive understanding of the forest's three-dimensional terrain.
Subtropical Forest Habitat
The Geogeum Ecological Forest is home to warm-climate subtropical species such as the Machilus thunbergii and the Alnus japonica. Unlike typical forests where leaves fall in winter, many evergreen trees maintain their foliage in February, giving the entire forest a green hue.
The forest is filled with phytoncides emitted by the plants, providing fresh air throughout your walk. Minimal artificial landscaping preserves the natural appearance, making it easy to observe the plant ecology as it is.
Cheongseok Jesus Water Source
Upon reaching the viewpoint along the forest path, you will see the Cheongseok Jesus Water Source (a reservoir) below and the vast ocean stretching beyond it. The unique scenery where the calm reservoir resembles a lake overlapping with the blue sea is a charm found only in Geogeum Ecological Forest.
On clear days, the outlines of small islands floating on the sea can be seen distinctly. This space is perfect for taking a break while gazing at the open sea amidst the tranquil forest away from the bustling city.
