Sapgyoho, a Rising Star in Chungnam Tourism

The Sapgyoho tourist area, selected as one of the top 100 destinations by the Korea Tourism Organization in 2023, has been featured in various films and dramas. It was also the most searched tourist spot in Chungnam from 2022 to 2023.

While many tourists enjoy the area through videos, visiting with family to experience the beauty of Sapgyoho firsthand is highly recommended.

Although the weather was chilly, the expansive view of the sea felt refreshing. Families and couples traveling together appeared joyful and happy.

Seaside Square and Seagull Feeding

In the square, there was a spot behind the hourglass tower where visitors could feed seagulls. The sight of seagulls taking flight in response to visitors was spectacular, especially with the seagull-shaped streetlights adding to the charm.

Sapgyoho Fish Market Experience

As afternoon approached, more people gathered, making the parking lot crowded. We headed to the fish market for lunch, which was bustling with diners already enjoying their meals.

The lively fish market welcomed us with fresh seafood.

Our group enjoyed a hearty lunch of seafood noodle soup, filled with a variety of fresh seafood, making us feel pampered.

After our meal, we bought a basket of steamed oysters for dinner. The quantity was quite generous.

Marine Theme Experience Center

The Sapgyoho tourist area features the Battleship Park and the Marine Theme Experience Center. An automated ticket machine at the Marine Theme Experience Center allows visitors to purchase tickets for both attractions.

On the first floor of the Marine Theme Experience Center, there are experiences related to ship safety, fire suppression, and survival on a deserted island.

We learned how to evacuate in emergencies, simulating real-life situations. The survival experience zone taught us swimming techniques and survival methods on a deserted island, helping us prepare for potential emergencies.

Ocean Fantasy and Immersive Exhibits

The second floor features Ocean Fantasy and the Ocean Fantasy Hall, with various experience zones like starfish beach, shark cage diving, and jellyfish garden. The Ocean Fantasy Hall, equipped with a giant screen, showcased stunning visuals of giant whales and squids.

Battleship Park Exploration

After enjoying various experiences at the Marine Theme Experience Center, we took the elevator down to Battleship Park. The exhibits in the square are freely accessible, allowing visitors to view amphibious vehicles and patrol boats without charge.

A young boy listening to his father's explanation had a curious and excited expression.

With the ticket purchased at the Marine Theme Experience Center, we also gained access to Battleship Park. We explored the Volcano-class and Jeonju-class ships, which, despite losing their military functions, were once strictly controlled civilian areas.

The interior of the ships has been remodeled into exhibition spaces introducing the Republic of Korea Navy, showcasing various uniforms and equipment, as well as providing indirect experiences of naval battles.

The combat information center of the Jeonju-class ship displayed communication devices and radar systems as they were during operations. Visiting Battleship Park allows for insights into naval battles and enhances security awareness through experiential learning.

A Memorable Family Day by the Sea

The experiences at Battleship Park and the Marine Theme Experience Center, combined with the flavors of the Sapgyoho fish market, created a delightful and memorable experience. We concluded our visit at the Battleship Café, enjoying hot lemon tea while overlooking the Seohae Bridge.

We highly recommend a family outing to recharge happiness at the Sapgyoho tourist area.
