Exploring Susungdae: A Winter Wonderland in Geochang

Hello.
This is Lee Won-pil from the Geochang Public Relations Reporter Group.
In the winter, as the cold air brushes against your cheeks,
it's too precious a time to stay indoors.
I took a stroll to Susungdae.

Susungdae is a renowned scenic spot in Geochang,
where clear waters originating from Deogyusan Mountain meet ancient pine trees,
showcasing breathtaking natural beauty and rich cultural heritage.
It was designated as a scenic site No. 53 on December 26, 2008.
This place, once the border between Silla and Baekje,
was where Baekje envoys were sent off with a heavy heart towards Silla,
originally called Susongdae, but later renamed Susungdae after the scholar Toegye Lee Hwang praised its scenery in poetry.
Notable attractions include Turtle Rock, Yosu Pavilion, and Goryeong Seowon,
with unique tourist spots like Jeongon Jongtaek and Hwangsan Traditional Hanok Village nearby.
Every summer, the Geochang International Theatre Festival, the largest outdoor theatre festival in Korea, is held here,
while in winter, a sledding area for families operates,
making it a year-round destination for tourists.
The Susungdae sledding area is accessible along the path,
and there’s a cafe that sells desserts.
The delicious snacks catch the eye.
The Susungdae sledding area entrance welcomes visitors.
It’s a place for healing throughout the seasons,
with a goal of attracting 10 million visitors in the year 2026.
Come and experience the beauty of Geochang!
Winter is a wonderful time to create warm memories with family.
After exploring the sledding area, I headed towards the suspension bridge.
The suspension bridge, 240 meters long and 1.5 meters wide,
is designed to withstand seismic grade 1 and wind loads of 30 m/s.
Walking on the bridge offers stunning views of Susungdae from above.
The Susungdae Wood Culture Experience Center promotes the excellence of wood,
allowing visitors to create various wooden products.
This center has been recognized as the best in the nation for wood culture experiences.
I wrapped up my visit at Turtle Rock,
which resembles a turtle floating in the valley.
The surrounding area is filled with poetry from renowned scholars,
making it a place rich in history and beauty.
I highly recommend visiting Susungdae,
a place that offers both adventure and tranquility.
