Hello :)
Today, I would like to introduce Susungdae, one of the representative tourist spots in Geochang!
In the summer, you can enjoy refreshing water activities, and it hosts an international theater festival. During winter, it becomes a popular sledding spot.
Let me show you the snowy landscape of Susungdae.
Susungdae offers various attractions such as Turtle Rock, Yosujeong Pavilion, and a suspension bridge.
After parking, I walked past the suspension bridge and headed up the trail.
As I walked a bit further, I came across Guyeon Seowon.
Guyeon Seowon started as a private school called Guyeonjae, founded by Master Shin Gwon in 1540. It later developed into Guyeon Seowon in 1694, honoring both Master Shin Gwon and Master Seongpaengnyeon.
The overall atmosphere of Guyeon Seowon is calm and tidy.
The snow-covered courtyard and buildings create a perfect spot for a brief visit.
After passing Guyeon Seowon, I walked the Susungdae Mubeongjangsu Trail starting from Turtle Rock.
This trail connects Turtle Rock to the suspension bridge.
The famous Turtle Rock, which resembles a turtle floating in the valley, is named for its appearance.
With a light dusting of snow, the contours of the rock are more pronounced, resembling a turtle curled up.
Pine trees that have withstood the test of time are scattered around the rock, making Turtle Rock truly remarkable!
The rock's surface is inscribed with poems by T'oegye Yi Hwang and other classical poets.
Below the rock, the valley water flows, adding to its impressiveness.
Crossing the bridge connected to Susungdae's large rock leads to Yosujeong Pavilion.
Yosujeong was initially built in 1542 between Guyeonjae and Cheoksudae by Master Shin Gwon, who enjoyed the arts while teaching his students. It was destroyed during the Imjin War and later rebuilt in its current location in 1805 by his descendants.
The snow-covered pavilion and surrounding trees blend naturally, creating a space that harmonizes well with the atmosphere of Susungdae.
From Yosujeong, you can see the distant Susungdae suspension bridge.
The distance from Turtle Rock to the suspension bridge is 3.6 km, making it an easy walking course.
The suspension bridge operates from 9:00 AM to 5:50 PM during the summer (March to October) and from 9:30 AM to 4:50 PM in winter.
Climbing the stairs leads you to the suspension bridge.
The bridge is 240 meters long and 1.5 meters wide, and it can be a bit scary.
However, the view from the suspension bridge is truly magnificent.
The rocks and landscapes harmonizing with the valley create a beautiful concluding course.
For those who wish to walk slowly in nature during winter or enjoy the valley scenery, I highly recommend visiting Susungdae :)
