Exploring Hanjin Port: A Scenic Night Walk in Dangjin

Hanjin Port, located in Dangjin City, Chungcheongnam-do, offers a unique experience of the daily life by the West Sea. By day, it is a lively fishing port bustling with boats and work activities, but by night, it transforms into a serene space showcasing the beautiful night view of Dangjin.
One of the highlights here is the Hanjin Port Circular Trail, a wooden deck walkway that runs along the sea. Completed at the end of 2023, it is open for everyone to enjoy without any restrictions. Its direct connection to a parking lot makes it easily accessible for a quick visit.
As the sun sets, the streetlights along the deck and the port lights gradually illuminate the area. The gentle glow allows the scenery of the sea and the port to emerge beautifully, and the sound of the waves makes for a pleasant walking experience. With well-placed lighting and railings, it remains relatively safe for late-night strolls.
Along the path, you will encounter various signboards and short quotes that introduce the background of Hanjin Port, its fishing culture, its role in the region, and related literary works.
This area has been a hub for merchants and envoys since the Baekje period and was an important port known as 'Jaejin Port' during the Joseon Dynasty. Before the construction of the Asan Sea Wall, it served as a central point for maritime traffic, with passenger ferries operating between Incheon Port and this area.
The trail features several viewpoints where you can pause and enjoy the sea. The lighting here naturally showcases why the Hanjin Port Circular Trail is considered a prime night view destination in Dangjin, with lights reflecting on the calm water surface enhancing the atmosphere.
The viewpoint lights change colors gradually, altering the ambiance of the space. On the night I visited, a thick fog created a dreamy scene as the lights diffused. It was impressive how the landscape transformed with different times of day, seasons, and weather conditions.
The viewpoint is designed with two levels. While it is not very high, it provides ample space to linger and take in the surroundings.
From here, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the distant lights of Pyeongtaek Port, the moored fishing boats, the circular trail lights, and the industrial complex's night view. The fact that it is freely accessible without any specific procedures is a bonus.
After descending from the viewpoint, I continued walking along the deck. The Hanjin Port Circular Trail extends to Gudae Neighborhood Park, with a total length of about 741 meters. A round trip is approximately 1.5 km, making it an easy and enjoyable walking course that anyone can appreciate, even on winter nights when I often encountered fellow walkers.
As time passed, the surroundings grew darker, while the lights became more pronounced, enhancing the night view's atmosphere. The deck is adorned with letter sculptures and photo zones, making it a great spot for capturing memories.
At the end of the trail, there is a symbolic sculpture that represents the circular trail. Crossing two bridges leads to an oval-shaped viewpoint deck, where a structure reminiscent of a sail emits light.
While not as open as the viewpoint, the experience of walking around the sculpture is impressive in its own right.
After passing the sculpture, the deck path ends and leads to Gudae Neighborhood Park. This section lacks dedicated lighting, prompting me to turn back.
Upon returning to the entrance, I found several restaurants around the port. It’s a great place to enjoy a warm bowl of clam noodle soup or fresh seafood, and the nearby cafes are perfect for winding down with a cup of tea. If you're looking for a peaceful spot to enjoy the night scenery in Dangjin, the Hanjin Port Circular Trail is certainly a worthwhile walking course.
