Hahdeok Station, located in the countryside of Dangjin, offers a calm and understated travel experience far removed from the rush of city stations.
With the opening of the double-track Seohae Line, this small rural station has become a new starting point for slow train journeys connecting Chungnam and the Seoul metropolitan area.
This trip focuses less on speed and more on the scenery, capturing the quiet charm of fields, plains, and unhurried moments along the rail.
Hahdeok Station, A Quiet Stop in the Countryside
is a station on the Seohae Line located in Hahdeok-eup, Dangjin City.
Surrounded by wide rice paddies, the station blends naturally into the rural landscape.
After the farming season, the scenery becomes even calmer.
Empty fields stretch out in every direction, creating a peaceful atmosphere rarely found at train stations.
With relatively few passengers, the station never feels crowded.
Its simple structure and open surroundings encourage a slower pace.
Seohae Line Opening and Improved Accessibility
Hahdeok Station officially opened on November 2, 2024.
This marked the launch of the double-track Seohae Line connecting Hongseong in Chungnam to Seohwa-seong Station in Gyeonggi Province.
Shuttle buses and direct buses operate between Hahdeok Station and the Dangjin bus terminal.
This makes public transportation access easier than one might expect for a rural station.
Although plans to visit Seohwa-seong Station were initially postponed, this trip finally became possible.
Combining the train journey with a visit to Seoul added excitement to the day.
Tourist Information and Nearby Attractions
Hahdeok Station includes a small tourist information center for Seohae Line travelers.
Maps, brochures, and basic travel guidance for the Dangjin and Hahdeok areas are available.
Information on nearby attractions, bus routes, and taxi services helps visitors plan their routes.
Notable nearby sites include Hahdeok Reservoir, the Hahdeok Folk Museum, and Sinri Holy Site.
Early Morning Departure Toward Seohwa-seong
We arrived at the station parking lot before sunrise.
In the quiet darkness, friends gathered to board the 6:52 AM Seohae Line train.
Though the station is usually still, the presence of familiar faces briefly brought liveliness.
The chilly morning air heightened anticipation for the journey ahead.
Inside the train, the environment felt clean and modern.
Comfortable seats and charging outlets made the ride pleasant.
From Seohwa-seong to Seoul and Back
The train departed Hahdeok at 6:52 AM and arrived at Seohwa-seong Station at 7:43 AM.
From there, a shuttle bus runs twice daily to Chojijeong, at 8:00 AM and 3:35 PM.
We boarded the 8:00 AM shuttle, reaching Chojijeong in about 15 minutes.
Afterward, a subway ride of roughly an hour brought us to the National Museum of Korea.
While connections to central Seoul felt slightly inconvenient, the journey itself was satisfying.
After touring the museum, we returned on schedule to catch the afternoon train back.
At 3:05 PM, we took the shuttle back to Seohwa-seong.
The return train to Hahdeok departed at 3:55 PM, neatly concluding the day.
A Journey Defined by Scenery and Stillness
This Seohae Line trip emphasized the experience rather than the destination.
From the fields surrounding Hahdeok to the plains near Seohwa-seong, the scenery unfolded quietly.
The landscapes passing by the train window left a lasting impression.
It was a journey filled with calm moments, gentle movement, and shared memories.
