Exploring Hadduk Rural Theme Park
With the passing of the Daehan and the start of spring marked by the Ipchun, it feels like spring is just around the corner.
During this winter break, I would like to introduce Hadduk Rural Theme Park, a great place to understand rural life with your children.
After parking in front of the Hadduk Agricultural Folk Museum, head down to the right, where you can experience the essence of our rural community.
At the entrance, there is a sculpture in the shape of a waterwheel, indicating that you have arrived at Hadduk Rural Theme Park.
Historically, we were an agricultural nation, but now most farmers are over 70 years old, while those in their 60s are considered the youth.
Although there is land available for farming, it is unfortunate that many are not actively cultivating it.
You can find tools and exhibits related to traditional farming methods at the Hadduk Agricultural Folk Museum and the adjacent Hadduk Rural Theme Park.
This is a place where you can show children the structure of traditional thatched houses and explain their purpose.
Outside the museum, there are also thatched houses, creating a charming folk village atmosphere.
As you stroll slowly, you can explore these traditional houses.
Next to the thatched house, you can see a watermill and a foot-powered mill, allowing you to reflect on the various ways our ancestors processed grains.
Explaining the uses of these traditional tools to children while observing them can be quite educational.
The watermill consists of a large flat stone with a round stone placed vertically on top, which horses or oxen would pull to crush the grains. The foot-powered mill was used to grind or crush grains by stepping on it.
This park also explains the 24 seasonal farming practices, allowing visitors like me to learn about them.
In the past, farming methods were passed down orally through the seasons.
The park features stone figures of village deities and stone towers built by our ancestors to ward off misfortune and pray for a bountiful harvest.
Additionally, there are reproductions of inventions for measuring quantities and time, including a wind gauge to measure wind direction and strength.
Exploring this park alongside the outdoor exhibits of the Hadduk Agricultural Folk Museum is highly recommended.
Here, you can find various tools and devices that assisted in farming, such as water clocks and sundials.
The water clock was created by Jang Young-sil, while the sundial was used for astronomical observations.
There are also displays of farmers plowing fields with oxen and scarecrows to deter birds from eating crops, creating a delightful scene for families to enjoy.
Hadduk Agricultural Folk Museum is a wonderful destination for family outings, as it showcases the traditional aspects of our rural life.
While exploring, you can also check out the various farming tools used in the past, not just the thatched houses.
The park features a playground where children can enjoy zip lines and swings, providing a great place for them to take a break while exploring.
As you walk around, you might also encounter cute sculptures, like a frog.
Strolling along Hadduk Reservoir, you can appreciate its historical significance and beautiful scenery.
Visiting Hadduk Rural Theme Park allows you to reflect on the past of our rural community.
This park is an excellent learning experience for families and school groups, as it offers hands-on activities and explanations tailored to children's understanding.
While you're here, it would be great to also visit nearby attractions like Hadduk Reservoir and the Hadduk Agricultural Folk Museum.
