This time, I visited Cheongju Land Zoo, where I could meet cute and fascinating animals up close and observe their ecology.

Located in Cheongju city, Cheongju Land Zoo is an eco-friendly zoo.
Not only can you meet various animals up close, but it also emphasizes wildlife protection and ecological education.
With the option to enjoy both animal viewing and nature walks,
it’s a popular weekend getaway spot.

Upon entering the zoo, you'll find the visitor center on your left.
This space is designed for visitors to take a break from the heat or cold.
It includes a nursing room, first aid room, and a small library,
making it convenient for families visiting with children.
Strollers and wheelchairs are available for rent here,
so checking this beforehand can help you enjoy the zoo comfortably.
I started my tour from the otter area and strolled along the paths.
Cheongju Land Zoo is surrounded by lush trees,
providing a nice shaded area to enjoy the exhibits away from the hot sun.
Although there are some uphill paths, most of the zoo is accessible via gentle slopes,
making it relatively easy for strollers and wheelchairs to navigate.
Walking along the green forest paths, I felt like I was both exploring the zoo and enjoying a leisurely stroll.
I moved towards where many people were gathered.
Getting closer, I spotted adorable meerkats.
In front of their enclosure, details about their characteristics, diet, and living environment were provided,
which helped in understanding the animals beyond just viewing them.
Next to the meerkats was a fennec fox,
which was hiding inside its wooden house to escape the heat; it took me a while to find it.
Discovering animals that are hidden adds to the fun,
making it a more enjoyable experience, especially for children.
I then encountered various animals like the Korean wolf, Asiatic black bear, and sika deer.
With clear signage throughout the zoo,
it was easy to find which direction to go for different animals,
allowing for a comfortable and guided experience.
While on my way to see the lions,
I stumbled upon a special area.
This space was previously the enclosure for sika deer,
now opened for visitors to experience.
Stepping inside the small cage,
I felt the cramped atmosphere and limited space.
Experiencing what it’s like to be in an animal’s shoes made me reflect on animal welfare and the value of life.
At the wildlife protection facility, I also got to see lions.
Lions that previously lived in a small zoo have been relocated here.
Their large size and heavy presence naturally drew my attention,
but seeing them relax comfortably made me feel relieved that they had adapted well to their new environment.
I continued to see various animals like goats, peacocks, raccoons, and badgers.
As I climbed towards the observation deck,
I noticed an enormous birdcage.
Peering through the telescope, I saw pink flamingos by the water’s edge.
It was my first time seeing flamingos, and their vibrant pink color against the lush green scenery made it a memorable sight.
After a leisurely stroll, I returned to the otter area.
As I walked, taking in each animal, I realized time had flown by.
Beyond just being a place to view animals, Cheongju Land Zoo offers a chance to walk slowly and relax in nature,
which I found to be its greatest charm.
If you're looking for a great spot to visit with your child in Chungbuk this May,
I recommend Cheongju Land Zoo.
If you want to meet adorable animals up close and spend a relaxing time in the green forest paths,
why not plan a trip to Cheongju Land Zoo?
