Exploring Cheonan Museum: A Journey Through Time

Last weekend, I visited the Cheonan Museum, the representative museum of the region, during my trip to Cheonan, Chungcheongnam-do.
The museum showcases how this area has transformed from prehistoric times to the Joseon Dynasty, primarily through historical artifacts.
Here’s a brief review of what you can see there :)
Crossing the street from the outdoor parking lot, you will find the beautiful main entrance built in traditional Hanok style.
Just a short walk past the entrance leads you to the main building of the museum.
On the first floor, there is an information desk, a lobby, and a children's museum, while the exhibition halls are located on the second and third floors.
The permanent exhibition hall is on the third floor, and the second floor features special exhibitions. I recommend starting your visit on the third floor and then moving down to the second floor.
Exhibition explanations are available on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the week, and on Saturdays and Sundays. Please note that there are no explanations on Wednesdays and Fridays.
There are four sessions for the explanations throughout the day, each lasting about 40 minutes. To participate, wait in the lobby on the second floor, but be sure to arrive on time, as latecomers will be directed to the next session after five minutes.
The third floor features three exhibition rooms arranged in a way that allows for a comfortable viewing experience.
Many parents visit the permanent exhibition hall with their children, which is divided into three eras: Prehistoric, Goryeo, and Joseon. It’s a great indoor spot to escape the cold.
The first exhibition room focuses on the theme 'Time Embraced by the Earth', showcasing the region's formation and changes from prehistoric times to the Three Kingdoms period.
It illustrates why people chose this land and how the natural environment influenced their lives through various artifacts.
The second exhibition room, themed 'Treasures Carved on the Road', discusses the significance of this area during the Goryeo Dynasty, highlighting its role as a transportation hub where Buddhist culture flourished.
The third exhibition room, titled 'History Written with a Brush', presents the administrative and daily life of Cheonan during the Joseon Dynasty through recorded materials.
The Cheonan Museum is a wonderful place to explore local history from prehistoric times to the Joseon Dynasty.
The permanent exhibition is well-organized, making it easy for families to enjoy together. The special exhibition 'Empathy Cheonan: A Sense of Time' connects the past and present through photographs, leaving a lasting impression.
Whether it’s a cold or hot day, if you’re looking for an indoor destination in Cheonan, the Cheonan Museum is an excellent choice, with free admission and convenient parking, making it a great outing for families.
