Exploring Baekgok Reservoir in Winter

Located in Jincheon, Chungbuk, Baekgok Reservoir showcases different charms throughout the four seasons, but personally, I find winter to be the most enchanting. Upon arriving at the reservoir, the peaceful atmosphere envelops you, allowing you to appreciate its beauty in tranquility.
There is a small open area for parking, and the road is not heavily trafficked, making it convenient to park along the roadside. However, I had to park nearby and walk since the road leading to the sluice gate was blocked.
The scenery at Baekgok Reservoir changes beautifully depending on the time of day, making it ideal for visits in the morning or late afternoon. I particularly enjoy late afternoon visits when the sunset casts a stunning glow over the ice.
In the middle of the reservoir, there is a swaying bridge that is perfect for a leisurely stroll. At the end of the path, there's a café where you can enjoy a cup of coffee while taking in the winter landscape.
The swaying bridge has more movement than expected, providing a thrilling experience while also offering a sense of security with its high railings. Baekgok Reservoir is also famous for smelt fishing, but since I visited on a weekday afternoon, there was no one around.
Upon closer inspection of the ice, I noticed traces of fishing, with several holes drilled into the ice at a distance. It's important to avoid venturing too far, as the ice can break and the water is deep, posing a danger.
The view of Baekgok Reservoir from the swaying bridge is captivating. The ice partially freezes depending on the weather, but seeing the entire surface frozen was a first for me. The coexistence of ice and water creates a beautiful boundary, but the completely frozen state of the reservoir was particularly special.
At the end of the road, there is a building with restrooms available for public use.
Baekgok Reservoir is a medium to large reservoir that supplies essential water to agricultural lands in Jincheon and Eumseong. Constructed in 1949 and expanded in 1984, it now serves as a key facility for tourism, leisure, and local agricultural production.
Beyond the sluice gate, a walking path continues, providing the best vantage point to view the winter lake.
Recently, a cold wave has frozen the reservoir, but without any snowfall, there was no accumulation of snow on the ice. This allowed me to appreciate the mix of transparency and silvery hues of the ice against the reservoir's landscape.
Baekgok Reservoir connects to Jincheon Historical Theme Park via a walking path, making it convenient to explore both. The theme park features sports facilities such as soccer and foot volleyball courts, along with walking trails.
Notably, there are the Jincheon Bell Museum and the Saenggeo Print Art Museum, where you can enjoy a combined admission for 5,000 won. Overall, Baekgok Reservoir is a serene place ideal for quiet walks and healing. You can also explore various tourist attractions along the walking path, so I highly recommend a visit.
