Exploring Asan Environmental Science Park
Asan City in Chungcheongnam-do is home to a large Environmental Science Park filled with attractions and activities.
It's hard to believe that this place was once a landfill and sewage treatment facility.
Opened in May 2008, the Asan Environmental Science Park has transformed from a "nuisance facility" into a haven for citizens and a space for learning.
During the winter vacation, many children and adults visit this park.
The park features various facilities including the Jang Young-sil Science Museum, Asan Ecological Insect Museum, and a viewpoint overlooking the city of Asan.
Additionally, the Onyang 4-dong Administrative Welfare Center and Health Culture Center are located here.
Around the park, the Horongbit Park, which opened in 2025, showcases wide green spaces and sculptures, developed as part of the "Asan Environmental Science Park Night Attraction Project."
The park features a character named "Horongi," inspired by the city’s emblematic owl, allowing visitors to enjoy light and play while exploring.
The central area features a large "Magic Top" sculpture, creating a mystical plaza with media art that immerses visitors in the cosmos.
Asan Green Tower, standing 150 meters tall, is accessible from the underground parking lot and leads to the Onyang 4-dong Administrative Welfare Center.
This facility utilizes steam generated from waste incineration for heating and hot water, showcasing energy recycling.
From the observation deck, you can see the Asan City Resource Processing Center, which hygienically handles municipal waste and sludge using the latest technology.
The view of the clear Gokgyocheon River nearby highlights the importance of these facilities.
The observation deck features transparent reinforced glass, providing a thrilling experience.
Asan Green Tower is also famous for being a filming location for the show "Running Man," and a restaurant is located on the upper floor for dining with a view.
On the first floor of the Green Tower is the Ecological Insect Museum, bustling with children and parents during winter vacation.
This museum exhibits over 40 species of live insects, including tarantulas and scorpions, alongside tropical and subtropical plants.
Visitors can engage in hands-on ecological learning experiences.
The Jang Young-sil Science Museum, established on July 22, 2011, aims to become a landmark for science and education in Asan.
It is operated by Sunmoon University, which focuses on nurturing glocal leaders.
The museum features interactive exhibits that engage visitors of all ages.
