Experiencing the Ganghwa Starlight Night Festival

As summer transitions into autumn, festival news from across the country creates a lively atmosphere. I also visited a festival held in September. The festival I attended was the '2025 Ganghwa Starlight Night,' and I captured the vibrant scene filled with attractions. This trip was an invitation from Green Story Tour, a travel agency specializing in Ganghwa tours.
Enjoying the festival and traveling around Ganghwa made for a very fulfilling day. I arrived at the festival early to explore the surroundings and participate in free activities. I spent a wonderful day mingling with many visitors.
The event took place over two days, September 5th and 6th, at Yongheunggung Park in Ganghwa-do. Various attractions were prepared for visitors, including a starlight photo zone, flea market, food trucks, food booths, guided tours, and experience booths.
2025 Ganghwa Starlight Night
Location: Around Yongheunggung Park, Ganghwa
Dates: September 5th - September 6th
Time: 18:00 ~ 22:00
The event started at 6 PM, but many people had already arrived. I had an early dinner and arrived to find the atmosphere already buzzing. The opening ceremony began with a parade prepared by Ganghwa Elementary School students, followed by a wind orchestra performance.
I arrived early and went up to the nearby Anglican Church of Ganghwa. I entered the church as the lights were being lit one by one.
It felt familiar after a long time. The event venue was clearly visible from the churchyard. Free snapshot photography and Hanbok (traditional Korean dress) experience booths were operating here. With a receipt from Ganghwa, you could try on Hanbok for free.
I took pictures in Hanbok with the church as the backdrop. Various outfits and accessories were available, so I could choose the style I wanted and take photos.
A wonderful parade followed. I also enjoyed various performances prepared by local students and performance teams. The enthusiastic photography of the parents was palpable.
I also looked around the flea market. There was a workshop booth selling perfumes they had directly created. I sampled a few and bought a car diffuser with a scent I liked.
The flea market was filled with people selling various other products. It was fun to slowly walk around and look at everything.
Snack boxes for families were also being sold, including handmade cookies and milk. They were also selling handkerchiefs and jam. I keep losing my handkerchiefs lately, so I bought a few more.
Next to the flea market booths, there were tables and chairs where you could eat. The main stage also had chairs where you could sit and watch the performances. Many people brought mats and sat on the lawn, which looked very comfortable.
At the main event booth, they were giving out souvenirs after completing the stamp tour. I had completed all the stamp tours, so I stood in line to receive a gift. The gift was a tumbler mug, which I liked because it had a lid and seemed useful. If you presented a receipt from the event, you could also participate in a roulette game. Additionally, you could participate in the Starlight Keyring making experience, the Cheongsachorong (traditional lantern) making experience, and the Sochang (muslin) dyeing experience for free.
There were many free gifts being given out, so it was fun to walk around the main booth and look at everything. The most popular booths were the Starlight Keyring making experience and the Cheongsachorong making experience.
Following the opening ceremony, there were performances by local performance teams and guest singers. Lee Soo-yeon, Gummy, and Hwanhee performed that day, and Park Wan-kyu, Hongja, and Heogak were scheduled to perform on the 6th. I watched the guest singers perform and was captivated by Gummy's voice, singing along enthusiastically. Her voice was perfect for the autumn night, and I couldn't help but be moved.
It was also fun to capture people enjoying themselves in their own way. There were little kids running around excitedly, couples holding hands affectionately, and elderly people. It was nice to see everyone getting along and enjoying the scenery.
I sat at a table with a cool cup of coffee and unwrapped the gifts I had received. They were beautifully packaged, which made me feel good. I thought it would be perfect for drinking coffee at the office, so I carefully took it with me.
The night was brightly lit with lights. The event venue was well-managed, and the surrounding facilities were well-organized. I was surprised that there wasn't much trash, even though it was a space that could easily be overflowing with it. I found out that the staff were cleaning up right away.
Food trucks were lined up along the street. There were various foods available at these food trucks, which was perfect for filling a late-night hunger.
It was a festival that lived up to its name, 'Starlight Night.' There were plenty of things to see and do, making it a perfect outing to spend a fun day. I'm already looking forward to what it will be like next year.
